A commenter on FFAF reported yesterday…

FYI – there is a sign on Dekalb/Howard at the RR crossing stating that it will be closed 2/28-3/3 for track repair. No more info than that. Total closure? That will be fun …

I heard from a friend that there’s a similar announcement out there for the Coventry Road railroad intersection for the same days.

City Manager Peggy Merriss hadn’t heard anything when we asked the city yesterday, but she pointed out that technically the west side intersections are outside the city limits, so CSX wouldn’t need to contact Decatur city officials.

More info as we have it.

    1. When I encounter a morning rush hour train on my bike, I just go under on Paden Circle to College, then back over to Dekalb at Rocky Ford (which I take to McClendon anyway). Not a huge deal, but a minor nuisance. And not necessarily kid friendly.

I just have to remember to actually do it and not get to the tracks first! 🙂

  1. It would be so nice if they widened the PATH at this intersection during this maintenance. It won’t happen, but one can still wish.

  2. I wouldn’t complain if they got rid of the bump, but I’m sure that’s too much to “fix”. Speaking of bumps, looks like there will never be a fix on that nasty part of Dekalb Ave. by Fox Bros. I figured that was a temporary fix on the water break, but I guess not.

  3. This is why I always turn on Waze before i head to work or head home… this completely changes the traffic flow for my commutes.
