Now that 17 Steps has closed, is there a good place in Decatur to get Christmas cards and wrapping paper?
I had a similar question yesterday as I used up my stash of elegant Thanksgiving-themed paper goods. Where will I buy more? There’s certain types of shopping that don’t lend themselves well to Amazon purchases. I can’t figure out where people make those purchases now. Maybe they just don’t and this is one more thing that dates me. I remember when 17 Steps was so successful that the owners/staff were almost arrogant and always talking about their trips abroad. But the recession of 2007-2008 and changing tastes and one day delivery with Amazon Prime did them in. Don’t know if there were lease issues as well. The booting couldn’t have helped.
Wal*Mart 😉
Home Goods had a huge supply of gift wrapping and cards.
Richard’s Variety, Intown Hardware or the paper store at Ponce Market are all great places for cards and gift paper.
I know this has been asked a million times, but can anyone recommend a quality framer in the area? I don’t mind driving a few miles, but the closer the better.
I trust Briarcliff Frame Shop with everything. They are great!
Artifacts, on Boulevard at the edge of Grant Park.
I’ve used Rose Squared Custom Framing (111 Clairemont Ave) for one piece and liked the results very much. In Decatur!
Anyone know when the new Mellow Mushroom is opening?
I saw a sign on Mellow Mushroom tonight that says they open December 5th.
December 5, according to a comment on their FB page. 🙂
Don’t know when they’re opening but last time I walked by, workers were checking placement of large-screen TVs in that outdoor seating area.
Not so mellow.
But, what if they decide to continually stream mellow music from bands like Air Supply or Carpenters on these TVs? Though, then, you might have mellow music vs. a not-so-mellow customer (or even citywide) reaction.

Thank you to the very accommodating couple of drivers on Adair Saturday or Fri pm who very carefully drove past me and my elderly dog who stopped in the middle of the street to do some business. She really can’t go very fast – at anything- and we appreciated your patience.
