Construction of the East Decatur Greenway Trail will begin November 7, 2016 and continue through March 2017. The trail will be located on county right-of-way on Katie Kerr Drive. We will do everything possible to minimize any impact to your daily routine during construction. Please be patient with their task of clearing and grading your area.

As shown in the map below, the East Decatur Greenway will connect from a new community park on S. Columbia Drive – a former vacant gas station, up Katie Kerr Drive around the backside of the United Methodist Children’s Home to the new Avondale MARTA mixed use development.

Is this being coordinated with the Avondale Station TOD development?
The trail is actually designed to integrate directly with the footbridge that crosses College and the tracks, making for a seamless connection with the Atlanta/Stone Mountain PATH on the other side.
Important to note the current footbridge has stairs. So it’s not like you’ll be able to ride straight through without hopping off and carrying your bike (or taking the nasty elevator). There’s nothing in the TOD development documents indicating changes to the footbridge. The trail will be great though! Props to unincorporated DeKalb folks for getting this done!
I believe it will be: “Eventually that trail will connect with the crosswalk spanning East College Avenue that will be incorporated into the mixed-use development of the current MARTA parking lot.” http://www.ajc.com/news/local/decatur-gas-station-site-getting-prepared-for-trail/VrXyKJNhcNAG26epftDRRO/
a few years ago when they cleared the trees out this is what I hoped they were building. so glad it’s happening after all! 🙂
