Coyote’s Mexican Grill Taking Over Long Vacant Restaurant Space in Ice House Lofts
Decatur Metro | October 26, 2016 | 11:47 amAs Decaturish reported the other day, Coyote’s Mexican Grill in Avondale is moving into the long-empty Carpe Diem space in the Ice House Lofts on the edge of downtown Decatur.
Coyote’s is leaving Avondale to make way for a huge mixed-use development between Hillyer Ave and Sam’s Crossing along East College Ave.
I took this lovely photo of the new Coyote’s signage the other morning.
This is great news! Coyote comes back home to Decatur after many years. Hope they still have the real Mariachi Band & music.
They do have the Mariachi band on Friday nights, and a guitar player on Sundays.
Do they serve free chips and salsa? I’ve never eaten at their current location in Avondale Estates. It’s aIways nice when TexMex places serve free chips & salsa if any still do.
I live really close to the Ice House lofts and this location, it will be nice to have a restaurant in that space. Maybe they will break the curse of that location.
It looks like Fresh to Order is going strong and broke the curse of their location on Ponce.
Yes, bottomless free chips and salsa. Glad this local restaurant is able to stay local.
HOORAY! This is wonderful news!
I only ate there once and was unimpressed. It sounds like I hit it on a bad day from the comments. I hope that’s true. 🙂
We consider the hot mess of a place in Avondale as our go-to Mexican. We love the family of servers and getting to know the kids as they grow up. We had started wondering if they were ever going to fix the dangling light fixtures and crappy parking lot, I am glad they were saving their time/effort/$$$ for this move. Yay!
“huge mixed-use development”? No more info than that? Any links or additional information?
The Decaturish post has the deets on the development.

Thanks for this Scott. Does this mean the falling down and off-color political message & “For Sale” signs on that corner will be gone forever? Wow, it is fairly large… kinda crazy how fast the, “Decatur Metropolitan Area” is growing (I know, it’s in Avondale). I think we should start putting some real skyscrapers downtown. We need a real skyline by golly! (I’m being facetious…again).
That’s the parcel but the site plan retains the trees and green space adjacent to Sam’s Crossing so I suppose it could include a days-of-yore signage zone where the previous owner could return to post new expressions of outrage.
Is he still stuck with the former discount baked goods/former Nuwaubian temple building by YDFM? I think he also has another non-profit producing commercial parcel on Moreland just north of DeKalb across from the Wrecking Bar.
