Free Advertising Thread for Porchfest Artists, Porch Hosts and Food Purveyors

tomhall

Many Oakhurst Porchfest porch hosts have already put chalk to sidewalk (or “chalk to wall” as in the case above) or ink to signage to promote their band for this coming Saturday’s event.  Y’all rule.

But we on the Porchfest organizing committee are a 21st century crowd – for better or worse – and so we also respect the sheer power of the interwebs to get the word out.

This is where DM can help out.

So porch hosts, bands, artists and food flingers with associated deals for Saturday’s event: use this thread to promote yourself.  Tell your fellow neighbors where you’ll be and what you’ll be offering, so they can be sure to stop by.

BTW inside tip – If you hadn’t noticed, we have added food offerings to the Porchfest Google Map.  So not only can you plan a route around the neighborhood to hear all your favorite bands and visit friends, but now you can also plan to pick up a crepe, smoked wings or hot pretzels as you roam.  And many of the food proceeds go to support area non-profits and other organizations.  How awesome is that?

  1. Girl Scout troop 10566 will be selling homemade cookies, bottles water and cider from 2-6 at 156 Jefferson Pl. There are bands on the 100 block of Jefferson Pl from 2-6 so you can just come hang out on that block all day long eating cookies. We are also hosting 7th grader Nelson Jones from 4-5. He is a Renfroe student with an amazing voice.

  2. Come start your day at Noon at 326 Adams Street with a delicious, $2 Beachy BBQ sandwich, fresh off the Big Green Egg, served up by my kids and their cousin, aka Cousins’ Beachy BBQ! Wash it down with some Luau Lemonade and a Baja Brownie. While you nosh, enjoy the profound musical stylings of Flock of Eagles(rock/country)!

  3. I have a friend with a brown suede sofa looking for a home. Would make good seating for Porchfest.
Throw your address out and we’ll see what we can do to get it to you.

  4. We will have burgers and a keg for as long they last at 331 4th Ave. We know we are on the edge, but come check out Tuesday Nights Live from 2-3pm featuring a cello and a mandolin!

  5. I’ll be selling my Decatur famous smoked wings at 409 Mead, across from Matador. Jumbo wings smoked on the Big Green Egg. Plain dry rubbed or tossed in my secret sauce. We’ll also have my sweet onion habanero sauce if you can stand the heat. Bring cash! All proceeds and donations will benefit Friends of DeKalb Animals! Good food, great cause!

      1. There’s about a 40% probability that any wings you eat came off MY Egg. Two other friends helped with the smoking this week to bang out about 200 pounds worth. They did a damn great job though. And it’s my recipe so if you have any complaints it’s all on me. Come on and say hey tomorrow!

          1. 92.22% chance that you’ll consume a J_T wing if you eat five. Is that relatively sure enough?

Then again it’s been 30 years since I took a statistics class, so maybe that should be factored in as well.

          2. They’re pretty jumbo, so 200 pounds was about 1300 wings. Selling them 6 for 8 bucks. I’d say four orders should do you.

    1. I think I love you
So what am I so afraid of
I’m afraid that I’m not sure
Of a love there is no cure for

    2. Loved the wings JT. And thanks to the nice man at the Marsh House (?) who invited us to sit on their porch while we enjoyed them.

      1. Glad you enjoyed! We somehow sold all 200 pounds of wings that we smoked! Guess I better up our game for next year.

        1. I have a bunch of amazing friends who helped make it a huge success. We really threw it together with no idea of how to properly plan. Already have big plans to expand and improve for next year! If we can use that same space and also get a few bands playing in that courtyard I think we can make it a real Porchfest highlight.

  10. Van Helton, winner of the coveted “Guitare d’Or” award for the most face-melting performance at last year’s Oakhurst Porchfest, delighted fans by announcing earlier this week that the last stop on their 2016 World Tour will indeed be Porchfest. Van Helton will be gracing the 224 Kings Hwy main stage at 4 pm on 10/8.

The band will once again be filming the event in 360 degrees for fans to enjoy on YouTube 360 (last year’s video can be found here – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHjX6YhOOsI) and in Google Cardboard Virtual Reality (last year’s experience can be found in this app — https://itunes.apple.com/tm/app/foundry-45-virtual-reality/id1058799548?mt=8).
