YEA! – which stands for “Young Emerging Artists” – is coming to Oakhurst’s Harmony Park this Saturday, September 24th from 12p-4p.

What is YEA!?  I’m glad you asked. From the Decatur Arts Alliance website…

Returning for its fourth year, this wildly popular one-day arts event has been embraced by local students grades K-12 as a way to showcase their creativity and talent to the public. Shop at the juried outdoor artists market or enjoy live performances at a stage in Harmony Park at Oakhurst Village!

Tents lining the newly redesigned Harmony Park packed with student artists showing off a bounty of jewelry, paintings, photography, drawings, culinary delights, and handcrafted goods, all for sale.

On a stage in the center of the area is a nonstop line-up of high energy performances from wild-and-wooly rock combos to blues acts, singer-songwriters, soloists, and more.

“The quality of the applications for YEA! continues to amaze us. It’s exciting to see how much talent Decatur students possess,” says Angie Macon, executive director of the Decatur Arts Alliance. “We are so proud to provide a venue that connects our creative students with an arts loving public and get students to consider art as a career.”

The young artists gain practical experience in event organization, marketing, and sales of their art work.

  1. Over the course of the next three weeks, folks in Oakhurst will be treated to:

Jazz Nights at the Solarium – Thursdays, Sept. 22 and 29
    YEA! – Saturday, Sept. 24
Madison Avenue Soapbox Derby – Saturday, Oct. 1
    5th Avenue 5K and Mayor’s Mile – Saturday, Oct. 8

All part of why we’re so thankful to be a part of the Oakhurst community. Y’all come!

    1. For many years, I was a self-proclaimed ITP snob. That all changed when I moved to Decatur a little over 10 years ago and I became an ITD(ecatur) lover. Now Oakhurst is upping the ante and I want to move to Oakhurst to become an ITO super-lover!

So glad to have so many good things going on in our community.

  2. In addition to the 70 visual artists (K-12) who will be selling their work in the park, here is the music line up for YEA! Music starts at noon on stage in Harmony Park-

    Waldorf Orchestra
    Shaina Lee
    Kristina Jones
    Marla Majett Cello Studio
    Elliot Broth
    Emerson Barrett
