  1. With all the chatter last week about Church Street and traffic does anyone have an up date on the houses from Chandler Grove Condos to the Glen lake pool selling out to a developer supposedly building condos on the property? This development will have a major impact on Church Street traffic and could not have in the city planning for the street development.

    1. Certainly looks like a good time for one of local bloggers to investigate. Decaturish? Tomorrow’s News Today?

    1. We did nothing for fall break for the first time in several years. I broke my ankle at McKoy in July, which put a damper on fall break travel plans. We’ve enjoyed the beach and Disney FB posts from other CSD families during the break–or some of us have, rather. (My 1st grade daughter believes she’s cursed.)

    2. We’ve spent the whole week in Seacrest. It seems to be popular with other CSD families – which makes it fun to run into people 🙂

  2. St. George Island. Kids are still there with Grandparents while parents came home early for work and kid free R&R.

  3. Still at Disney!

Kids got a behind-the-scenes tour of Space Mountain — I highly recommend it if you are considering Disney for the your next break.

    1. This is very cool. We are huge Disney nuts in our household and go to WDW (or occasionally Disneyland) roughly every other year. To be able to coordinate with other Decatur families and add a backstage and educational component would be awesome (Epcot has always been my favorite park, even when I was a kid, so that tells you something about me). Hope there’s still something like this when our kids reach middle school age (if not, we may try and organize it).

      1. FYI — your kids can be as young as 5 — you don’t have to go to RMS to take part in the program — we’ve done it twice now and our kids aren’t at RMS yet.

  4. Fixed vs. Variable Natural gas pricing?

Been paying the variable rate. Currently it is $1.02 per therm. Should I lock in a 24 month fixed rate plan at $0.58 per therm. Seem like this would be a much better deal, correct? I am with SCANA.

      1. I did not get a postcard. I was just poking around online. Going to be the time of year soon where the gas bill starts to skyrocket so I was looking into trying to save a little $

    1. Compare rates at the GA Public Service Commission: http://www.psc.state.ga.us/content.aspx?c=/gas-marketer-pricing/

    2. This is worth a look; http://www.clark.com/ga-natural-gas-guide
Check out the chart on the GA PSC link as well.

    3. I actually checked out those two links posted above before I made this post but thanks for posting them.

When I looked at the website that Jeff of maps and bikes linked it seems that over the past year the rate per therm has never been as low as the $0.58 and that is almost half of what the variable rate is.

I have been happy with Scana and do not plan on switching. So I think I am just going to do the 58 cents a therm deal. Seems like a no-brainer but was wondering what others paid per month.

      1. True Natural Gas was/is .38 cents a therm for 12 months. I believe they were recommended by Clark Howard.

    4. Keep in mind that a good portion of your bill is the cost of providing the delivery infrastructure by Atlanta Gas Light. The per therm cost doesn’t affect that.

      1. Steve makes a good point about the provider charges. The way the temperatures have been, I’m not sure it pays to have natural gas instead of electric for heat (and certainly not if you only have it for water heating/cooking). About 9 months out of the year we barely use any therms, but we still have the same service and connection charges every month.

    5. I think fixed is better than variable from consumer perspective because you are protected from unexpected price spikes.

    1. Constellation is offering a $0.399/therm 12-month fixed rate with a $75 gift card promotion: https://shop.constellation.com/#/30030_WebBonus/_AGL

  5. Make a bit of time to check out the Avondale Estates Citywide Yard Sale tomorrow from 8 am until 2 pm.
The map makes planning your search easy, including a listing of what is for sale organized by category and addresses:http://avondaleestates.org/DocumentCenter/View/1308

    1. I remember a few years ago i left the Shaky Knees festival at Alantic Station early, and when i got home i could actually hear the music in Decatur. We have slightly higher elevation than surrounding area, so sound can carry straight to us from a long way off.

      1. And, from what I read the low cloud cover and humidity made it the perfect storm for hearing MM all the way in Decatur. Plus, it was Deadmau5.

        1. Actually the artist is important in this question… heavy base notes carry much farther than treble.

  6. Do we need a thread on where to find gas? Most QTs and Krogers are out. FYI that Sam’s Club at Clairmont and I-85 has gas (regular only).

  7. Also, what is going on at the Emory Commons Publix at N. Decatur and Clairemont? Why all the huge storage units taking up my favorite parking spaces by the side of the building?

  8. Georgia Natural Gas $0.44 per therm. Lock it in while it is discounted. Other discounts may be available if you ask.
