When will Karen Minton begin dressing appropriately for her age?
When will men stop commenting on how women dress?
Wish there was a Dislike button option.
Do you dress appropriately for your age? Who makes the call on what’s appropriate for any age? Why is it that everyone feels empowered to judge women’s attire?
Thank you both.
Watch out for that land mine, Ste…oh never mind. You stepped on it.
Who cares, however you should look so nice at 60+
I think she looks great.
I also think she looks great. Plus, she’s smart and a nice person.
I stopped caring about the local weather reports after Dagmar Midcap left town. Of course, that had nothing to do with her appearance, which is something I hardly noticed and really can’t recall.
I would never tell a woman what not to wear. Dagmar can continue wearing those sweaters as long as she would like…
Who is Karen Minton?
It’s apparently to late to advise to not feed the trolls.

What’s the story with the big hole in the ground on the south side of Forkner near where it intersects with Sycamore Drive? Sinkhole? Abandoned teardown & rebuild?
It is a tear-down. I have no idea why there is the huge hole; other than maybe the contractor dug out the basement or a potential basement? Whatever, I sure hope the huge, beautiful tree next to the hole stays.
Can anyone recommend a good and affordable hardwood floor refinisher? Thanks.

A few months ago there was a story that the Courthouse parking deck was going to start charging 24/7, any more word on that?
I know you’re asking about the future, and you probably know it’s still free for now. But I suggest we not bring it up and maybe it’ll stay that way…. best kept “secret” in town.
At the risk of attracting further unwanted attention…free all the time, or just evenings/weekends? It used to be $6.50 during business hours. I’m at the courthouse several times a week, but usually for only an hour so I park on the street.
Evenings and weekends only.
When does “evening” start? I asked the attendant around 5:45 and he said they are still charging. That is waaaay past quitting time for local govt!
Stores on the Square say parking is free in the County deck after 6 PM. So I guess evening = 6 PM.
You pay on the way out, so as long as you leave after 6 pm, you are good.
Icompetence in Dekalb is not always such a bad thing. Just usually.
Infant daycare recommendations? I have no idea where to start, although I’m beginning to realize I should have started a LONG time ago. Eek! Please help!
Yes! Any help with recommendations would be appreciated here as well! Wife and I do not know where to start either.

It may have been answered before, but does anyone know why the ace hardware store lot continues to sit empty? Seems like prime real estate?!
I think it might be part of the East Decatur Station / CSD/COD pending mega land deal?
I think not. Too far away and not contiguous.
That area is zoned C-3 Heavy Commercial, which is not particularly conducive to the long range plans of the property owners, and the city’s not inclined to issue a rezoning until a formalized master plan for the entire area has been submitted (the last master plan is speculative and has changed a lot since it was originally produced over a decade ago).
Until the land is rezoned and the entitlements are in place, I don’t expect that site to turn over. And because that’s the plan, I don’t think anyone’s motivated to fix and re-lease the building.
so happy to f.i.n.a.l.l.y. see oakview rd in oakhurst village striped! and the crosswalks are gussied up, too!
bring on the back-to-schoolers! 🙂
RIP Ryan Gainey. His passing is very sad news.
Really will miss his garden. He was such a generous soul. How did you hear of his passing?

Anybody been to the Comet Pub and Lanes for bowling and/or food?
We recently went on a weeknight. Still some significant kinks to work out. Our waiter forgot twice to put our order in. They were also out of several beers. They made it up to us though. Food was pretty good for a bowling alley. We will go back after a while to let them get settled in.
Took two kids Saturday morning and it was mostly empty. Not a cheap morning out, and the lanes themselves are still old, but the new interactive scoring is nice and the food (we had pizza) was solid according to the wee ones.
I’d like to go with the grownups some evening to see how they handle the night crowds.
Taking it down to two lanes in front of Arlo was an absolutely terrible idea. More density and less road means half an hour through Decatur
The narrowing is temporary while the storm drain construction is taking place. Perhaps you can suggest a solution?
Sure doesn’t look temporary to me. I don’t know how they’ll fit one more lane on each side. My solution is not to try to pack every corner of this city with more people. Katie Kerr and South Columbia is next. Ridiculous.
It will be the same three lanes as before when the work is finished. There was never a plan to add more lanes.
There’s a lot going on there but it’s definitely temporary and will go back to the one lane northwest, two lanes southeast it’s been historically (for at least 20 years but I don’t know before that) once everything’s done. More info on what’s happening here:
http://www.decaturmakeover.com/tag/storm-drainage-improvements/
The ARLO site also adds sort of a fourth lane sporadically for some on-street parking.
An entire lane was lost because if the Arlo on street parking and widened sidewalk. I walked by today. The back up now extends to Twains if not farther now on the weekdays.
The “fourth” lane with the on-street parking spaces was carved out of ARLO property. The city ROW will go back to the 1 lane in, 2 lanes out configuration it’s been all along once the construction and infrastructure work are done.
It wasn’t two lanes each way, i.e. 4 lanes, before? Can’t believe I already forget. It is once you get past the intersection with Claremont.
The street in question, E Trinity, doesn’t intersect Clairemont.
Oh, wrong new development, sorry. I can’t keep the hipster names straight. I think I meant “The Place” or something like that, not “Arlo”.
You meant Alexan 1133 behind the Fidelity Bank building.
That’s it. Arlo, Alexan, one of those androgynous names with no relationship to the building or neighborhood!
Question- do developers have to pay a rental fee of some sort to take over public right of way during construction? I’m specifically thinking of the one-way strip of Howard that has been forever closed during Arlo construction, and the lane on Clairmont during Alexan build out. If not, why? Seems like a fee based on length of use would motivate efficiency of staging to minimize public loss of Right of Way. If there is a fee, it would be great if the City could publicize the use of funds so that residents can feel/see at least some public benefit for loss of use.
The concept is built into the overall planning approval. It’s one of many “negotiating” chips that are considered when deciding what the allowed parameters of a development are going to be. Now, what weight it carries and whether that particular variable is undervalued are still questions to be answered.
There used to be two lanes going out of the city (with DQ on your right). One ended up being a turn lane. Now because of Arlo the second lane, the turn lane, cannot be accessed until almost after you get past the development. This lane does not return after the construction is done. The Arlo sidewalk and on street parking make it impossible for the old configuration, unless I’m missing something.
As Scott points out, the “on street parking” was only associated with the Arlo construction, is not in the ROW, did not exist before and will not exist when the project is complete.
How do you know that the left turn lane at the railroad doesn’t return when all the construction is done? It looks pretty clear to me on page 50 of this :https://www.dropbox.com/s/70q7vibrz6m9zxh/PI%200009025%20-%20DeKalb%20County%20-%20Final%20Plans%20-%20for%20advertisement%20on%20web%20April%2018%202016.pdf?dl=0
that there are two lanes southbound at the railroad, even beside the Arlo.
Well, it was pointed out incorrectly. There have been four lanes – two in and two out (one of the out lanes turned into a turn lane as you approached the tracks). The turn lane will still exist, as I mentioned previously, but not until you get past Arlo. It is now one lane from Twains all the way down to the turn lane. The on street parking and widened sidewalk make it impossible to gain back a lane. I suggest you go take a look. This is a section of road I travel daily. It is going to be even worse when traffic from Arlo starts. Poorly conceived.
There have never been 4 lanes in that section of E Trinity.
Pull up bing.com/maps. The Dairy Queen is still showing on the aerial view, with 2 lanes heading toward the RR track, and the left one becoming a left-turn lane (arrow painted on the street) before E Howard Ave intersects just west of N Candler St.
Yep. But you can’t access that lane anymore until you get past Arlo.
“Water line break causing temporary traffic issues on East Trinity
July 25, 2016 Hugh Saxon Status Updates
Earlier this morning, July 25, Astra Grading and Pipe broke a water line in front of Fire Station No. 1 on East Trinity Place. DeKalb County Watershed Management is on the scene and has started the necessary repairs.
Water service will be temporarily shut down on East Trinity between Church Street and North Candler while the repairs are being made. Traffic detours may be required while repairs are underway.”
http://www.decaturmakeover.com/status-updates/water-line-break-causing-temporary-traffic-issues-east-trinity/
It will all go back to the normal three lanes once repairs are made. Until they repair it you will have to go around the big hole in the ground to fix the water line.

So you are the person who uses Bing!
Pfft. I can top that. I still have a Microsoft Zune.
Sometimes!
So is it agreed at least that Trinity was never 4 lanes here?
“So is it agreed at least that Trinity was never 4 lanes here?”
This debate reminds me a bit of the one in NYC a few years ago, which I just read about in “Street Fight”. After some streets were changed to add bike lanes, improve walkability, etc., some people swore lanes had been removed even on streets where they hadn’t–sometimes even when presented with “before” photos that showed the number of lanes hadn’t changed.
I was wrong about 4 lanes. We will see if it goes back to how it was before.
