Announcing Oakhurst Porchfest II: The Return

It’s that time of year again, folks.

Decatur Metro, together with our fellow organizers, is pleased to announce the official launch of Porchfest 2016. Registration is now open for porch hosts, performers, volunteers, and more. Check it all out at www.oakhurstporchfest.org.

Beyond being on a Saturday (October 8) and running an extra two hours (Noon to 6pm), fans of last year will be happy to find that little else has changed. Perhaps we’ve become a bit more efficient, or focused, or adept at connecting people who want to do cool stuff but, from an organizational standpoint, it’s all eerily familiar.

A safe, fan-friendly sequel, so to speak. But so was Godfather II and that got an Oscar.

Crowd-sourced and largely do-it-yourself, the vibe of this year’s Porchfest will ultimately be determined by how people choose to take ownership — the diversity of musicians who come to perform, the creative ways in which hosts welcome their audiences, and the unexpected surprises along the way that just seem to happen with no involvement from us whatsoever.

With the right alchemy, we’ll all be poised for greatness. So get your game on, Oakhurst. Let’s do this!

  1. A bit sad that we no longer have an eligible porch as we are now 150 yards outside of Oakhurst following our relocation to a Kirkwood address. On the bright side, we’ll be able to catch more performances this year since we won’t be a host. This, in only one year’s time, has become the gold standard of festivals in my mind.

    1. Your participation, including those tasty craft beverages served gratis, will be missed, Keith. Maybe you could run a Hosting Bootcamp this year to school potential hosts in the finer points of hospitality.
