I’ll get right to it, because I know everyone is excited. Here’s the release….

ATLANTA (July 14, 2016) – Comet Pub & Lanes will officially open tomorrow, Friday, July 15, at 5 pm, providing a full experience of bowling, shuffleboard, chef-driven food menu and large beer selection in the heart of Decatur. The team behind Twain’s Brewpub & Billiards took over the former Suburban Lanes space to renovate and turn it into a top family and late-night destination for the area. Being owned by the Twain’s team, the space and menu hints at its sister concept, however will be its own entity with its own personality.

While taking over the former iconic Suburban Lanes, the team wanted to ensure the core stayed, with only some updates including iPad systems for scoring, brand new televisions, upgrades to the lanes and more. The space boasts 32 working lanes that can accommodate up to six bowlers per lane. In addition to the bowling lanes, guests can also sit at the wrap-around bar or play shuffleboard.

The beer menu will include an impressive number of options including 16 draft beers and 50 bottled beer options. Unfortunately guests will not get access to their favorite Twain’s beers at the Comet premises, however plenty of local, craft beers will be available, along with some macro brews.

Chef Savannah Haseler of Twain’s did oversee and create the Comet’s new menu. While Savannah is the mastermind behind the dishes, she will continue to helm the kitchen at Twain’s and only serve in a supportive role at Comet moving forward.

Keeping it simple for the bowling alley, guests can get a plethora of sandwich, burger and pizza options along with other bar snacks. Pizza options are served as build your own or also picking from the top styles.

The restaurant is partnering with various farms and other providers for local products including Pine Street Market, White Oak Pastures, Gum Creek Farms and Springer Mountain Chicken.

Menu highlights include:

  • Chicken Wings from Springer Mountain Farms
  • Cola BBQ Pulled Pork sandwich with cheddar and fried onion straws on a sesame bun
  • Chicken Waffle Dog with a Pine Street Market chicken sausage fried in batter served with a maple bacon aioli
  • Build Your Own White Oak Pastures Burger, available in single, double and triple optins
  • The “Savannah” pizza with herbed ricotta, broccoli, black and green olives, roasted garlic and tomato
  • The “Large Marge” pizza with herb pesto, roasted tomatoes, ricotta and fresh basil

Current hours for Comet Pub & Lanes is open daily from 5 pm to 12:30 am, with likely adding early afternoon hours in the near future. The space can accommodate up to 300 people and is available for private parties, large and small. The Comet Pub & Lanes is located at 2619 North Decatur Road, Decatur, GA 30033. It was back in the summer of ’83
    There’s a reason I remember it well
I was slipping and sliding, drinkin’ and drivin’

  2. Hmm, I thought serving Twain’s beers was in the early plans. Brewpubs are allowed to sell up to 5,000 barrels annually to a wholesaler. That wholesaler could then sell to Comet Pub. It’s a completely stupid law and a hassle, so I understand if that’s the reason why not. But it’s possible to serve Twain’s beer if they wanted.

    Still excited for them!

    1. We have a hard enough time keeping up with our own demand for Twain’s Ales at Twain’s. Plus we’d have to sell our beer to the distributor and then buy it back at a mark up.
Some specialty beers from Twain’s will make it over there on occasion. But don’t worry we have a pretty nice list with a special rare keg pouring tomorrow!

    1. Aren’t bowling alley seats always hard and uncushioned? Usually hard plastic? Not sure why–because bowlers always put their feet on the seats? Bowlers have trouble getting up from a chair and need a firm surface to push up from?

  3. So fun to have another spot/activity going again in Decatur. The shuffleboard was surprisingly fun, and pizza crust was delicious. We’ll be back soon!

  4. I’ve been looking forward to this but they sure made it bland and boring looking. They took all the color, fun, and kitsch out of it. Oh well.
