Decatur City & Schools To Hold Annexation Work Session Next Tuesday
Decatur Metro | June 3, 2016 | 10:17 amDecatur City Manager Peggy Merriss sent around an announcement this week stating that the City Commission and School Board would hold a joint work session this coming Tuesday June 7th at 7p to discuss “annexation policy”. That’s all we know at this point.
But back in February, after the GA legislature failed to pass the city’s annexation bill, the city and schools stated in a joint statement…
It is anticipated that the City Commission and the Board of Education will revisit annexation later in 2016 to determine what options should be pursued in the future.
So there you go.
Noticed that the map has changed quite significantly from the last time. They removed more homes on the N. Decatur Rd. side while still keeping the business section open.
I wonder if they are going to finally open up to the larger sections of Midway Woods. COD literally bisects that entire neighborhood down the middle.
Midways Woods doubtful. There was a thread on Nextdoor last week and not sure if it was representative of the neighborhood, but overwhelming response was a resounding no. They tried twice before and us old fogies galvanized with petitions no. Oddly enough my guess is that the new homes selling for $500k-$900!(yes can you believe it!) would say no. Nearly all send their kids to private schools and wouldn’t benefit. The only group, IMHO, are the ones that bought 5 years ago when you could still get a 3br/2ba in the $200’s. Now tears owns cost that much here. Plus there is no commercial and 800 homes with probably 200 kids.
The meeting will be held at the CSD central office on Electric Avenue.
