Hat’s off to you, Daren!
Of course the AJC article has an error. The cottage court ‘homes’ will each be 700 sq ft to 1,200 sq ft not 12,000 sq ft as the article says.
I live very close to this Cottage Court project site. I wonder how they will build a driveway at the blind curve exiting out on to Commerce Dr? Sometimes there’s a reason a piece of property isn’t developed. We’ll see how it works.
Couldn’t attend the presentation but have wondered how a curb cut is going to work on that Commerce curve myself. (Or is there another means of access for future residents and construction vehicles? Maybe the City can waste some more money and buy a way in and out from one of the adjacent properties. Parking off-site?)
And does the planning and development group really define “affordable” as being $250,000 to $300,000? I’d guess many people who can afford these cottages will own more stuff than they can fit into 1200 square feet. Craftsman storage units coming soon?
I don’t trust that Darren character.
I don’t trust that Daren character.
“It was a dark and stormy night when Daren, having a little time to kill after another successful Decatur Book Festival, began to imagine, while sipping on some serious Scotch at the Brick Store Pub, whether it was possible to write a novel, or maybe just a novella, about growing up as a son of a Chinese immigrant and an American wife when suddenly BAM, it hit him that maybe, just maybe, people would be in interested in a small town in New York, not quite Decatur but what the hell, one with a Civil War connection, secession, slavery, a black heroine, “Give Em Hell Harry” Truman and of course a battle flag to really fire up the base…”
I left out Confederate gold, Agnes Scott, tunnels, the KKK, Donald and Hillary, and old dirt roads but Daren should manage well.
Chris, I wonder if you’ve gotten hold of the manuscript. The book does, in fact, include a tunnel (there is one in the basement of the house I grew up in), one or two pieces of confederate gold, and an establishment named “The St. Agnes Tea Room”. Neither Donald nor Hillary are in there, but you might find someone that bears a resemblance to a certain Fox News host.
Congratulations Daren, Book it! Oh, you did already. 🙂
Daren is one of the most genuine men I’ve met in Decatur… So busy but always takes the time to say hello. I can’t wait to read his novel.
