Prepared Foods and Sandwich Shop Opening in Old Sawicki’s Space
Decatur Metro | May 9, 2016 | 4:58 pmJan sends along this pic of a sign that’s been hung up in the old Sawicki’s space. No info online yet – that I can find!
Let us know if you’ve heard/seen anything about this new spot.
A Jackson Mississippi business expanding to Decatur. From the Jackson newspaper:

Seems a lot like the original Badda Bing location where Ale Yeah! is now, which was always appreciated but may have been a bit ahead of its time. This could do really well, given the growing number of downtown residences.
There was also a place years ago on lower West Ponce, I think where Farmburger is now. It was also ahead of its time. I loved the food but it wasn’t very little kid friendly and Decatur’s family population boom had taken off.
I think it was where Taco Mac is now? I loved that place, so ahead of its time w/ the prepared foods- I wish they had been able to stay around.
T. Mac was the Metro Market which was very cool but definitely too far ahead of the curve. They’d be killing it now. I think AHID is referring to a place called (if I recall correctly) Pop. At least that’s what I remember being in the Farmburger slot.
I LOVED Metro Market and was bereft when it left. Yes, ahead of its time. Did it sell wine/beer? If not, maybe that was the problem. We love our wine/beer in Decatur, risk behavior modeling for teens notwithstanding.
I’m remembering the name of the upscale meal take-out place as beginning with the letter V. “Voila” maybe? Or was that the Cajun place before it? The RMS PTA had a fundraiser there–something along the lines of just donate a hefty check so we can stop nickel and diming everyone to death with tiny fundraisers.
You are remembering correctly. It was called Voila. POP was in that space before Voila.
I , too , loved Metro Market but the best take out ever was the first version of Watershed. Great sandwiches, cheeses, bread and desserts.
Another new place in the Natty’s Closet location near FABU: Found Co. Decatur “A shop of collected objects & apothecary for the home and body–grounded in nature and inspired by the organic.” Coming mid-summer 2016.
Ooo sounds good! I’m excited!
Thanks for noticing us! I started Cookin’ Up A Storm 6 years ago in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s named in part for my son Storm. We moved to Decatur last year to open a second location. We have a tried and true menu which consists of everything from Chicken Spaghetti (our best seller) to Lasagna to Chicken Salad and much more! Everything is homemade! I will keep you posted on our progress. I am so excited to be a part of the community! Check us out at cookinupastorm.kitchen.

I looked at their site. The original is in my neighborhood where I grew up in Jackson MS. I thought I was the only transplant from Jackson.
Glad to hear it too. Decatur has a dearth of good sub and sandwich shops. Subway and American Deli just don’t “cut the mustard”. Give me stacks of Boars Head anything, some Jewish Rye and good ole potato salad. Yumm. I’d settle for a Which Wich
Have you tried the sandwiches at Oakhurst Market? Really good!
We need a Baldino’s in Decatur.
Would love to see a Savi Market, like the one in Inman Park, come to Decatur. I have emailed them and they say they are interested. If you like the idea, message them on Facebook
