Columbia Ventures has put up new renderings of the Avondale MARTA station mixed use development dubbed “E. Co Decatur”  – an abbreviation of “East College” – on its website.

The site notes that the project will commence this year on the 7.7 acre tract and include 228 market-rate units, a 92 unit senior affordable housing “component”, 22,000 square feet of commercial space, and a 728 space parking deck.  The description also notes that the project will connect to the under-construction East Decatur Greenway.

As for future phases, Columbia states its planning a “mixed use outparcel, an expansion potential for the multifamily, and a site for the City Schools of Decatur Early Childhood Learning Center.”

  1. Oh cool so like shops on the bottom and apartments and stuff on the top? You can live and work in the same place. Like a live/work place. Nice to see this kind of thing being built for a change!

    I’m kidding. Looks really nice.

    1. I wonder if there’s ever been a study of how many people live and WORK in these live/work/play developments. Seems like they mostly end up being live/eat (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

  2. Stay up-to-date with the latest by following this development’s coUrbanize site:

  3. It looks great, except for the bridge across College Ave, which still looks like a cage.

  4. I went to the public meeting that presented this last year.

One thing I recall is the incorporation of the bus station. I believe it is in a loop in the lowest level of the parking structure.

For those with familiar with DC Metro, it kind of reminded me of the Bethesda Metro station (obviously smaller), which also has the bus loop underneath the building overhead.

  5. Did anyone notice that the website states

“… and a site for the City Schools of Decatur Early Childhood Learning Center” as a future phase?

    1. It’s been part of the plan for a while but as far as I know there’s no formal agreement with CSD just yet. Just an ongoing conversation working in that direction.

      1. I’ve always thought there should be childcare businesses (or ECLC in Decatur) at the MARTA stops. Drop the kids and hop on the train, all in one stop.
