Road Conditions and Business Hours In and Around Decatur Today

snow2016

Nellie asked the question that I had when I woke up this morning…

What are the roads like out there?

Udog has already responded saying…

Roads were fine at 7am but all coffee shops were closed except Waffle House.

GDOT has this new, general statement about Georgia road conditions today…

Georgia DOT advises motorists to exercise caution when traveling in wintery conditions. Motorists should beware of black ice (especially on bridges and overpasses) and watch for fallen trees or power lines along the roadways in North Georgia and the Metro Atlanta area. Please watch out for Georgia DOT crews working to clear the snow and ice from the roadways.

Have you been out and about already today?  Roads around me seem relatively dry.  What has your experience been so far?  What’s open? What’s closed?  The city’s Linda Harris wrote a note on The Decatur Minute late yesterday saying the city would update a list of business openings/closings through out the day today.

Nick Purdy at Wild Heaven confirmed to me that they’ll be open from 2p-6p today, so there’s one option!

  1. The roads are treacherous. Most drivers are struggling to keep control and not hit other cars or pedestrians. This has nothing to do with the weather, however. Just another day in Decatur…

  2. Just walked the dog along Howard and Commerce. CVS is open. Roads are dry and clear. There are a very few slick spots on the sidewalks. It’s cold and windy, but beautiful, in a way.

  3. we called the Clairmont Y, and they’re open
not that it matters as long as we’re still in bed

    1. And East Lake Y has a message on their weather hotline indicating that they will reopen on February 14…. one presumes from last year.

Never change, East Lake Y. Never, ever change.

  4. A couple of black ice patches in Oakhurst Village. Saw a bad fall out in front of Sugar Moon /Kavarna. Lots of concrete in the Village. Careful!

  5. Some icy spots in hilly areas in my neighborhood south of Memorial Drive, White Oak Hills.

Traffic sparse but fast on Memorial Drive, which looks to be in good condition.

East Lake YMCA open noon till 6 today, per their website.

  6. Decatur/Dekalb YMCA not supposed to be open until noon according to their website but maybe they opened early.

Any word on coffee shops? And why are we all so reluctant to pick up a phone and call these days? Too far from the keyboard to reach?
