Decatur Metro | November 27, 2015 | 8:47 amOops! I probably should have set this up to automatically post since it was likely I was going to sleep in. Well, what’s done is done. Hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving. Anyway, on with it!
Feel free to use this post to make comments and ask questions about local topics not yet discussed here over the past week.
Obviously a holiday weekend since I’m the first at 9:25. I hope everyone enjoyed their food and fellowship yesterday.
Does Onyx (in downtown Decatur) repair iPad screens? I have been scanning through old posts because I thought this was discussed in previous FFAFs but can’t seem to find the info. Thanks!

Progressive Repair at 2734 East Ponce (near YDFM) recently fixed my son’s cracked iPad screen for $100, it was ready the next day. Worth going there just to see all the old typewriters and other vintage office equipment.
My hubby got his iPhone screen repaired at the Batteries + in Shamrock shopping center (Lawrenceville Hwy & N. Druid Hills). I’m not sure if they also do iPads, but you can ask. Not a bad idea to get a second opinion. I’d bet Onyx does it as well, but they will probably be charging Apple prices and may need to send it in. On the other hand, having Onyx do it will probably be treated like it was repaired by Apple if there are problems that arise later.
Regarding Postal Pond and our discussions about the Decatur Post Office, I read on Next Door that Inman Park and surrounding areas have also been having a terrible time with delivery, and they have been successful at having an investigation launched by emailing and with a flood of individual complaints. Mr. Terrell also notified the local postmaster. If you have had issues, I encourage you to email the hotline or Mr. Terrell directly so the issues can be addressed.
Best local place to donate lightly used kids’ clothes and toys? I have several bags full. Thanks folks.
First Christian Church’s Chalice Thrift on Nelson Ferry at Ponce will take both. Oakhurst Presbyterian at East Lake and 2nd will take the clothes.
thank you
any recommendations for a stone mason?
looking to have a 3-4′ wall built around the perimeter of our front yard
Your moat walls are going to have be a lot taller than that.
I suspect our building code regulates wall height but neglects moat depth.
the Yard Artist, Greg Wirth, did some good work for us a few years back
thanks, G.
Anyone lose some keys while running/biking?
small leather fob with RJ stamped on it?
Nope.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Does anybody remember the name of the recycling place in grant park? I have batteries, styrofoam and paints etc.
I found one online, but I think another one was recommended on here a while back.
Thanks!
Similarly, I have a grag bag of unused peteoleum products (motor oil for cars I no longer own, brake fluid, power steering fluid, whatever). I am having a hard time identifying a place that will take them. Some open, all unused. Or shoot me an email if you want them.
Is the motor oil Mobil 1 synthetic? I use 0W-20 and 10W-30.
Also, can you provide details on the other products you have?
I’ll take an inventory next time I am at my storage unit.

And where can we recycle old copper plumbing parts and get paid for the metal?
Newell REcycling has a location in Tucker now.
