4 Decatur Bars Among Eater’s “Essential” List
Decatur Metro | October 13, 2015 | 11:12 amEater just published a map-listicle(?) of the 18 “essential” bars in and around Atlanta.
The list runs the gamut from iconic dive bars like Clermont Lounge and Northside Tavern, to hipster hangs like Holeman & Finch and The Porter, to Atlanta classics like Manuel’s and Atkins Park.
Decatur rounds out the final 4 spots on the list with the following Decatur establishments:
- The Pinewood
- Brick Store Pub
- Leon’s Full Service
- Kimball House
And not to be the guy who closes his posts with a question in a desperate attempt to drum up conversation, BUT.. “Looking at the breadth of the full list, would you have included other Decatur watering holes on this list??”

J_T says, “Trackside!!!”
Nope. Nu uh. No way. We don’t need people who think these lists have any merit taking up our bar stools and complaining that they can’t get some fancy cocktail.
Trackside +2
The Marlay!
The Lil’ Lady and I enjoy all four that made the list but these are more like chi-chi bars. Nobody ever says, “Hey, let’s go to Brickstore and watch the Falcons play” or “Damn I’m tired from working in the yard (and I stink too). How ’bout we go and chill at the Kimball House” and “Oh no, Obama got reelected. To Pinewood and damn fast” The best “Everybody Welcome To Have A Kick-A Great Time Bar” is Trackside.
Please let it be noted that on October 13, 2015, at 1:46 pm, the world temporarily spun off its axis and I agreed wholeheartedly with something that Mr. Chris Billingsley uttered. He is so correct about everything else in his comment that I’m even ignoring the Obummer remark.
Where are you going to drink when Bernie is elected?
Thinking Mans Tavern
Square Pub…the best
Mac McGee!
Mac McGee’s has great beers, friendly staff, good food, and dozens of whiskeys. I end up there about 75% of the time.
Otherwise, I’ll be at Marlay.
