Easy..tampiqueno burrito at Elmyriachi
The most overrated food in the history of food. What is the burrito, Alex?
You’re not just wrong, but insane. When it comes to overrated foods, it’s Philly cheesesteak FTW.
Eh, the ingredients get all muddled in a burrito. No thanks. Don’t disagree re the Philly Cheesesteak. Also overrated:
PBR
Jagermeister
NY style pizza
Utz potato chips
Big Green Eggs (Primo is where it’s at)
I know where you live* and this will not stand!
*Not really. But you’re damn close to having me put my PI on the case. And if I actually do know you in real life, please remove yourself from my standing Fourth of July BBQ invite list!
Haha. I will redeem myself and take care of the beer for the 4th of July party. And the potato chips. And the liquor.
Nice!
Philly cheesesteaks are only overrated because people who have never lived in Philly have no clue what exactly they are supposed to be.
A sandwich?
Depends. Pat’s and Geno’s use Cheese Whiz — blech. But maybe they’re more tourist traps than anything these days. I know there are other places many locals regard as better. I haven’t been to any of ’em in years.
Jim’s on South Street is my place. Tony Luke’s is a great newer option. EVERY place has cheese whiz as an option but only morons order it. Granted, there’s a large concentration of morons in Philadelphia, so even many of the locals reflexively order a Whiz Wit. Most of them will even defend it by saying “That’s the original!” But that’s just wrong. Pat’s was open for at least 20 years before Cheese Whiz was invented. Provolone Wit (with onions) is where it’s at. I could go on, but now I’ve got to go to Woody’s…
If you’re in Philly, step up your sandwich game:
Veggie hoaggie from Chickie’s: http://www.chickiesdeli.com/index.html
Roast Pork Sandwich from John’s: http://www.johnsroastpork.com/
ANY pannini from DiBruno Bros: http://www.dibruno.com/
Any cold hoagie from Sarcone’s: https://www.facebook.com/SarconesDeli
It’s a surprise I didn’t gain 50 lbs living between the Italian Market and Reading Terminal Market.
cypress street pint and plate has a nice legit Philly on an amoroso’s roll, just like Jim’s but you don’t have to order double meat and cheese…Pat’s and Geno’s are just tourist traps and not great
And like a hamburger, a philly isn’t a sandwich….it’s better.
Most overrated food, or at least over-represented in number of restaurants, is pizza of any kind. I agree with the philly cheesesteak too, and would add chicken wings and oysters to that list. Oysters are a trend that will be over very soon.
Pizza and chicken wings?!! No, sir!
But I do agree with oysters. I also put guacamole in the overrated category.
WHAT????
People have been eating oysters in America forever (since before white people “discovered” it). This burrito fad? Not so much.
Well, I don’t think they are a fad (outside of the high end world), but they are overrated, IMO.
Walrus, you certainly have changed your tune regarding oysters.

Sorry, can’t help myself. At least I know that Parker will be amused!
Indeed. (Assuming you mean me. You know you have more than one Parker here? One of us is always Cross. The other generally pleasant.)
Yes, you!
All those damn oysters gave me a stomach ache!
Oysters as a “hip” food is what will end. Of course people will go on eating them as poor man’s sushi.
Carnitas with guacamole at chipotle
Bell Street Burritos
+1. Esp. the Green Chile with Pork. RIP Tortillas, we didn’t even know you were sick… The thing every other burrito joint gets wrong (I’m looking at you, Chipotle) is the cheese is supposed to be put on the burrito when the tortilla is steamed, not tossed in at the end. Speaking from professional Frijolero burrito-rolling experience (sadly, we were 10 years too early for the Decatur renaissance).
God I miss Tortillas. Their chicken burrito with rice and beans double wrapped was just about unbeatable for a poor college student.
Frijoleros: Wish Bean Man was still around.
Indeed, Frijoleros ran circles around Tortillas. I do miss them.
The tofu burrito at Willy’s may not be the BEST burrito in all the land but it’s my go-to locally because it’s better than Moe’s and they don’t charge me an extra $3 for chips and salsa like Chipotle. I do wish that Bell Street was closer or had a location in Decatur. And don’t even get me started on the $10 Raging Burrito atrocities…
Of course, Taqueria La Oaxaquena in Jonesboro is the real answer for “Best Mexican Anything” in Atlanta. But everything else there is so damn good, it just seems wrong to order a burrito. However, if that’s what you’re carving, they can’t be beat!
+1
Amen.
Have to give an endorsement to Eduardo’s Mexican Grill in Tucker. Great food and not too pricey.
Not a big fan of burritos, but if you’re starving you can’t go wrong with the one at Bell Street Burritos.
The only burrito I eat is the Sydney Salad burrito from Raging Burrito–which is not a traditional burrito at all but is super yummy–but I don’t see it on the “new menu” on their website…
Raging. Burrito. Period.
