Decatur Slide the City Rescheduled For September
Decatur Metro | August 13, 2015 | 10:20 amSlide the City sent out this announcement out to ticket holders this morning…
Thanks for your patience while we were working with the city to re-schedule our Slide the City Decatur event for our Triple and Single Sliders. Mark your calendars, the event will now take place on Saturday, September 12th 2015.
Your wave time will remain the same, and your registration will automatically transfer to the new date. You can log in to slidethecity.com to view/edit your registration if you need to.
If you made it to packet pick-up in July and got your gear already, you don’t need to check in again. Please just wear the wristband you received to the event and get ready to slide the day away!
We will be opening more tickets to the public on Monday, August 17th at 10AM EST. Tell your friends to come slide with you!
We can’t wait to get get our slide on with you! If you are unable to make the new date, or if you have any questions please email [email protected]

No info about refunds … grrr …
That is the first weekend of CSD Fall Break – they need to publish refund options…
The first day of fall break? Grumble.
I emailed them at springbokcs@ slidethecity.com and received a refund about a week ago.
I have emailed three times to the same email address and no reply yet. Hoping others are having better luck with communicating with this company.
Yea-a-a-a-a! Applause, applause!!! It is–and will still be–summer. Rescheduling such a biggie is no easy deal.
Just so surprised it is rescheduled to the Saturday before CSD Fall Break — was this potentially intentional? Everyone with kids (and tickets) are gone/otherwise committed! If not intentional, then poorly poorly researched when looking at dates. Ditto comments: big grumble. I feel duped honestly.
Yep, we will be out of town so we’ll have to get refunds. We’re hoping to erase this whole disaster from our collective memories. It’s too bad we didn’t get the message that they were closing at 12:30–we showed up for our 1 p.m. slot at noon so our kids got the whole picture of how much fun they were NOT going to have.
On the first weekend of fall break where a lot of Decatur kids will go out of town? Really???
We certainly live in a different Decatur than that of 20 years ago, if everyone around here can afford to take vacations on all the schools breaks. Talk about first a world problem! “I can’t go down the water slide because I will be on vacation.” HA!
Yup.
HA! indeed
Life is so hard for these children and parents.
Speaking of, did anyone witness that line in Startbucks this morning!? I watched one poor child wait 10 whole minutes for their Grande Frap’! (extra swirls)
and I remember when we had to walk 5 miles to school each way in waist deep snow! Kids these days and their rock and roll. Harumph!
No. It’s just that we’re all too house poor to take vacations during the summer high season. All destinations are cheaper over the Fall break!
🙂
Did they indicate where they would set up the slide?
Regardless of water pressure, the original location was simply not steep enough.
If they go back there, you should seek a refund.
The hill by Chic-fil-a would be about 100 times better.
Heck, they should do it on Madison Avenue. Even better, combine the waterslide with the soapbox derby.
“The hill by Chic-fil-a would be about 100 times better.”
I doubt if it’s long enough.
I have it on good authority that the new location will be the steep hill at the high school (N McDonough). It will be a lot faster!
I was very careful to state “gone/committed” – please don’t misconstrue my post as having enough money for a vacation every time there is a CSD break (and there are a lot).
We are “old Decatur” 35+ years, 2 generations and a dual working parent family that has to jump thru hoops to deal with the CSD calendar.
The point was not how affluent we are/aren’t but was that OF ALL THE POSSIBLE RESCHEDULING DATES, this was decided knowing CSD’s calendar…
Nice response. And Walrus should remember that not every vacation is lavish. Sometimes it’s just going out of state to see grandma.
Oh, I was just kidding around. I’m the last guy you will find to give people a hard time about their hard earned wealth anyway. Though, even a trip to Grandma’s taking away from slide time is still a first world problem. I’m glad we have first world problems! Capitalism rocks!
There probably weren’t that many days to choose from since it’s a seasonal type of activity and they have bookings in other cities.
We usually go camping for a few days over the September break, so easy to work around the slide day for us. Maybe there won’t be such long lines for those of us who are in town.
Yes, if the CSD is moving dates around on you, I can appreciate how that would make life harder for working parents. Totally get it. And, I’m not sure if the particular date that’s causing upset was moved or has been on the schedule. Either way, maybe the city thought it was a good idea with kids out on break. I can see how someone might make the connection.
The hill by chic-fil-a — N. McDonough – would be 100 times better even if it were half as long.
No matter how long the original slide was no one could go more than 1/3 of the way without stopping.
Then it was a lot of walking and trying to slide. It was worse for small children.
My 10 yr old would be a lot happier with a shorter faster ride, than walking down the slide route carrying a float.
