Decatur Launches New App and Online Service Reporting Tool
Decatur Metro | August 4, 2015 | 12:28 pmWalking through the city of Decatur and see a broken sidewalk that needs repair? Come across some unsightly graffiti that needs scrubbing?
The City of Decatur has just launched a new app available in Apple’s App Store and the Google Play Store called “MyDecaturGA” along with an online service at SeeClickFix.com that allows residents, business owners and visitors to submit quality-of-life issues and request services from the city with their smartphones and online.
“What KIND of issues can I report? I have a lot of issues!” you demand angrily.
Here’s the current list, courtesy of the city’s press release…
- Animal complaints
- Car seat safety check request
- Cemetery issues
- City Facilities Maintenance issues
- City trees and park maintenance request
- Code violations
- Feedback on staff or service
- Fire Inspection Request
- Graffiti
- Missed sanitation collection
- Out of Town house check request
- Parking issues
- Potholes
- Sidewalks
Once a report is submitted, City Staff and anyone watching the area gets an alert. Then a city employee assigned to that area will acknowledge the request and update it once it’s resolved.
“What does ‘anyone watching the area’ mean? Like with their fancy drones?” you ask before trailing off about how the drones impeded your fireworks viewing and openly wondering why there was a drone over the Decatur Lantern Parade if the video was never released.
Well, for all you Leslie Knope wannabes out there who really can’t get enough of the local issues stuff, get this…
Users can even create their own “watch areas” to receive notifications about all issues reported in their community, enabling them to follow the progress of all service requests, not just the ones they report. Additionally, people can view, comment on and vote to fix problems submitted by other users.
Follow the progress of ALL the city’s reported service requests? Whhhaaaaaat?
Dream. Come. True.
Oh boy. This actually is pretty cool. Like I can report a dog pooping on my neighbors lawn whilst sipping an umbrella drink in The Caymans. But seriously, there are a few busy body neighbors I know who going to make CoD reeeaaallly regret granting access to this!
A valiant idea, but it looks like you gotta be inside the COD when you’re reporting something – at least on your smartphone.
I had an issue with the upgrade of the app on my iPhone 6. Now it won’t let me uninstall nor does it work. I am not amused.
I had the same issue. I let it sit for a while then was able to delete the old one and install from scratch.
Thanks. That worked for me. I would recommend anyone installing this software not to upgrade. Uninstall the old version first. Then, install the new version. Go to the app store for the latest version.
If I am reading this correctly, anyone watching an area will see requests come in. Why would the city want to publish out of town requests? Isn’t that like sending burglars an open invitation?
Cue the obligatory Libertarian, Big Brother, NSA, Big government outrage.
so my tax dollars went towards me being able to know that one neighbor complained about another neighbor’s dog barking? oh good grief.
A little worried about using an app that anyone can ‘watch’ to report Out of Town house check request.
Will that part only be shared with police?
Out of Town checks are an exception to the public access feature of this app. Out of Town checks will be restricted to view by authorized personnel.
Thank you Deputy Chief Lee. Related – the city also clarified ” Reports like out of town house checks and requests for car seat safety checks are ALWAYS private.”
I want to know who this “you” is that DM refers to in his original post. “You demand angrily.” “…you ask before trailing off about how the drones impeded your fireworks viewing…” “…you Leslie Knope wannabes…”
Do you think he’s mad at us?
Do you think DM has gone deep end?
Could “you” be us?
Dark night of the soul.
I was going more for a self-mocking tone. But going off the deep end sounds much more impressive, so perhaps we should go with that!
Would I report overgrown sidewalks under code violations?
