I guess this is more of a Facebook sorta conversation these days.
My, how the internets have changed in the last 8 years!
I prefer it here without the pictures. Facebook is hard on those parents whose children won’t look enthused and cutely dressed or won’t allow a picture at all. You have to bravely like all their friends’ parents’ posts for posterity persuading yourself that at least the few hardcopy school photos that you have won’t disappear when devices and hard drives crash.
all i can think when i look at the image is how much better it would look if it were pressure washed.
Funny how no one ever considers “patina” on a modernist building to be endearing in any way.
feel the same way about the white trim paint stains that appear on Renfroe’s facade.
I thought that “patina” was reserved for metal and wood. On concrete, it’s just dirt, right? Of course I hope I am wrong, because then my driveway and sidewalks have patina all over the place.
That’s correct. But people tend to use it to describe all manner of weathering and age, so I just threw some quotes around it.
Cool. I’ll use it too, then! A perfect excuse to use the pressure washer less often.
when i imagine the Guggenheim or the High looking “patinaed”, the effect would detract for their form. ditto here—it’s such a strong design the dirt diminishes its appeal. for me.

Thanks to Mr. Roaden and crew for the traffic control at Fifth Avenue. There may be some unhappy parents, but I think it went much smoother than in the past. Hopefully everyone can learn the proper drop off procedures — it keeps everything moving better and is safer for the kids!
Or ride the bus …..
+1 that is what my youngest did while attending F.AVE
The bus to 4/5 picks up at our place at 6:30am. We’ll be driving.
I figured as much. Can your kids walk to the neighborhood school? Maybe we should keep kids at the neighborhood school through 5th grade. Imagine what that would do for traffic and pollution.
Yes, we walk to the elementary school. We love walking actually. FAVE is the total opposite end of Decatur – couldn’t be farther away. I know it’s not FAR like rural school districts but we just got spoiled with the K-3 being so close.
I agree, the traffic flow will be much better after everyone starts following directions. And Mr. Brooks deserves a big bonus for taking all the verbal abuse this morning!
Ugh. I hate to hear there’s been more of that. Mr. Brooks is the nicest man. What is wrong with people? It’s simply not that onerous to go “the right way”.
+1000
Even for the people who may be too far away to walk, it seems so much less stressful to park a few blocks from the school, then walk to pick up. It uses less gas, produces less pollution, it’s less stressful, and you’re not having the “How was school?” conversation in the rearview mirror.
40 days ’til fall break!
And 51 days until Fall!
Any chance I’d be arrested if I’m caught peering into my new kindergartener’s classroom window from the schoolyard? Or will her embarrassment be the worst punishment? it’s been a whole 5 1/2 hours!!
I’d forgive you. I loved the kindergarten years. Enjoy.
Aaaand, we’re late again.
It’s 7:15pm and I’m exhausted. Is it bedtime yet?
Top definition from urbandictionary.com:
Baller
A thug that has “made it” to the big time. Originally referred to ball players that made it out of the streets to make millions as a pro ball player, but now is used to describe any thug that is living large.
Pain is a part of the game when you’re a baller.
Does anyone carpool these days?
