Are we having fun yet? From DeKalb County…
DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management announced that a loss in water pressure in the county has been experienced due to repair attempts on a 48-inch main transmission line that has resulted in three pressure reductions to the system in less than 36 hours which might pose a potential of water quality issues throughout the county.
Therefore in an abundance of caution for our citizens and to protect the public from any potential health hazards, citizens in the affected area are advised to boil all water prior to use for drinking, cooking or preparing baby food. The water should be boiled for at least one minute after reaching a rolling boil. Residents served by the DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management should continue to boil water until notified by DeKalb County that the water system has been restored to full operation and the microbiological quality of the water is safe for human use.
Technicians will then send samples of the water in the area for testing. After the test results are available, DeKalb County in conjunction with the EPD, will provide an update to the boil water status.
Preliminary testing conducted Friday, July 24, 2015 showed residual chlorine disinfectant present in the system and no bacteriological contamination. Additional Samples have been collected today and will be collected during this event to further verify water quality.
This “precautionary boil water advisory” will remain in effect until the problem has been corrected and a bacteriological survey shows that the water is safe to drink.

Smart 911 is sending out text messages and recorded phone advisories to enrolled households. I just received both.
I didn’t receive any notifications – fortunately a neighborb
said she had received a couple of alerts…I COULD BE DEAD!
Are you registered with Smart911?
Thanks, now I am.
I received Smart 911 message at 4:35pm (it was on my voicemail) and CODERED ALERT at 6:32pm. Haven’t checked text messages.
If you tell Smart911 that a number is a cell phone, it can send a text.
Stupid questions I’m sure:
– If our home has had no water pressure or outage issues at all, does that mean that we are somehow on a different water supply path than the rest of Decatur that’s having problems?
– And if so, do we need to boil our water?
– Given the water problems all around us, should we be holding off on optional items like doing the wash, dishes, daily showers?
Playing it safe for now.
Water pressure was down to a trickle again around midnight at the south end of 2nd Avenue. Would be happy to boil water at this point, but there really ain’t much water to boil.
It’s 9:46am and all the news reports are that the water break is fixed yet, I don’t have water. Any news?
No water in Avondale Estates at 12:15 pm Sunday – not even a trickle.
This is ridiculous! It’s 11:20am Sunday and I still have no water. Not even a trickle. In a county of close to a million people, I expect more from a service that apparently needs full scale replacement of an outdated supply system.
