Decatur Slide the City Closing Early at 1pm Today
Decatur Metro | July 25, 2015 | 11:13 amOh man. From The Decatur Minute…
Due to the ongoing issues with a DeKalb County water main break the decision has been made to shut down today’s Slide the City event by 1 p.m. Ticket holders will be contacted by Slide the City in the near future about refunds, etc.
Because many buildings are without air conditioning (A/C system requires water), cooling centers are in the process of being established around the city. As soon as those locations are determined (we want to make sure they have water and functioning restrooms) an update will be posted here.
DeKalb County continues to tweet updates via @ItsInDeKalb.

Big boo hoo. I had actually gotten psyched to make a fool of myself on this in front of two teens.
DeKalb Watershed Management is a corrupt embarrassment.
Along with the vast majority of Deklab govt & board of Ed.
Don’t lump the front-line workers with management. Have you ever tried fixing a water line under pressure? Not an easy task, let alone on a 48-inch line
I have no idea how hard it is, but thanks for saying so.
Have you ever had to deal with Charles Lambert (head of Watershed)? Intransigent is the kindest word to describe that man. I have no doubt that the crews are good guys and that some of the work they do is difficult. But management throughout the county and particularly in the Watershed Department is downright abysmal. I would like to think that change is coming. But I don’t think we will get very far with any of the current leadership in DeKalb.
^that has nothing to do with broken water main
Terrible management of DeKalb Watershed has nothing to do with DeKalb Watershed’s ability to perform competently? I don’t think that’s much of a stretch.
You don’t know much about repairing a 48″ water main under pressure. Give the workman some credit. Sounds like one of our new candidates for a vacant office.
I don’t have any trouble with the workers who are trying to fix the line.
then why does repairing it have anything to do with the politics of Dekalb Watershed? I don’t get the connection.
The department has been mismanaged for years and years. That mismanagement negatively affects the ability of line workers to get their jobs done efficiently and effectively.
that’s a big assumption & statement. I guess we will be hearing a lot of that in the future.
Look into the history if the DeKalb Watershed Dept just a little bit. Federal Clean Water violations. Lucrative contracts to fix those violations costing taxpayers hundreds of millions. Burrell Ellis convicted for requiring kickbacks from contractors before awarding said contracts.
These are the facts. Not assumptions. This has been our leadership. The head leads the body.
Those are all well known facts. Lumping the crews out trying to get your water main fixed in with that mess, isn’t correct. They have nothing to do with it, is a big assumption & rather insulting to those crews.
THIS is exactly what I’m talking about. http://www.decaturish.com/2015/07/email-shows-disagreement-between-contractor-county-over-water-main-fix/
Again, I don’t have any problem with the line workers. But I do think that they are limited by the terrible management of DeKalb County Watershed.
I don’t think I’ve ever been more ready to see a summer end than this one. One of the most miserable seasons in recent memory weather-wise, and the last few days have put it over the top.
