How can we control the speeding problem? Hire Imperator Furiosa.
And the doof warrior to scare people with the face mask and guitar.
A speed camera like the ones in Germany.
Yes. Those are so effective. I don’t know why they aren’t more widely used in the US.
Because we have a right to face our accuser. Can’t cross-examine a camera.
$2500.00 fine. Mug shot posted on DM.
With the heading: “these are the poor people bankrupted by Decatur, GA over petty traffic violations.”
I like the idea of the fine being a percentage of net worth. It makes more equally painful for transgressors.
Seriously? Horrible idea.
First, much of the population has a net worth of zero or nearly zero. So for those who’ve managed to rack up big debts and save little or nothing, they can speed for free? Even some people with relatively large incomes have little to no net worth.
Second, every traffic ticket is going to involve a personal financial investigation to determine the fine? The police will have to be re-trained. “May I see your license, registration and proof of insurance” will now be “license, registration, proof of insurance, bank accounts, brokerage statements, land and personal property holdings, etc.”
It is also likely that 5-0 would begin profiling motorists based on how wealthy they appear. That dude with the sky-blue-and-mildew-colored Gremlin with one orange door will be essentially invisible to police.
Interesting that Kevin Rathbun uses a Big Green Egg to cook steaks on–at home and in his restaurants.
Seems to me that Decatur could post policemen on Scott 24/7 to catch speeders. Add a radar sign that shows your speed in bright lights and another that shows the number of speeding tickets handed out within, say, the last 48 hours. Do that two weeks running (or however long the fines pay for the police time and the equipment costs) and I suspect that speeds will come right down to the limit.
But maybe not. This seems so obvious that maybe the city has run the numbers and it doesn’t make sense.
Get motorcycle cop on the case. That guy gets things done.
