Decatur Water Slide Tickets NOT Sold Out Yet
Decatur Metro | June 10, 2015 | 11:26 amMany of you have been reporting issues with buying Slide the City tickets this morning. The city just posted this update on The Decatur Minute…
Ack! Us Decaturites are so used to buying tickets for the Beer Festival at lightning speed that the Slide the City ticket system just couldn’t keep up with the demand! They are working hard to get the site up and running smoothly again so please be patient. And don’t panic- they aren’t sold out. YET
The issues with the website do not bode well for anything else connected with the event. Aren’t those folks used to handling a high demand for the tickets?
I kinda agree. And while this sounds super cool, in reality, I have a hard time seeing it as anything other than: wait in line for 3 hours, slide for 3 minutes. Very bad fun to waiting ratio. Best of luck to those who brave the lines!
I had the same thought. Standing in a very long line with my young children does not sound like something I’m willing to pay for. Am I correct that the rest of the traditional beach party fun is cancelled this year? No sand? No bands? So I can’t even send my kids off with my partner to do fun things while I stand in line as a place-holder. And there’s nothing for young toddler-aged kids to do? Sounds like we’re going to skip the Beach Party this year. Such a shame. It’s usually one of my favorite things to do in Decatur.
I had trouble with their website, too. I went to their Facebook page to look to see if anyone else mentioned problems, and while I was there, I scrolled down and read some of the comments from people who have done this in other cities. Many of them were not favorable, so it’s just as well that it didn’t work. The universe was trying to tell me something.
Still not working. Bummer
weird — I didn’t have any trouble buying to one-slide tickets at about 9:20 today. sort of a long process but no glitches.
A few years ago, my son and I waited for nearly 90 minutes at the Schlitterbahn waterpark in Texas to ride their premier attraction, which then lasted about 90 (amazingly terrifying) seconds. We still think it was worth it, so we’re willing to give this a shot. I just want to be able to brag in a few years that I slid all the way down Ponce on my stomach…
Does anyone know how to login to the site? I can’t complete entering my info so the orders never get put in the shopping cart.
I think it’s random, whether your order goes through before the site crashes on you. Out of multiple tries for multiple tickets, both single and triple tickets, I’ve managed to snag only one actual single ticket.
These sites are always ill equipped to handle the registrations for popular events if tons of people want to register as soon as they open. This happens all the time with Active.com and the websites to register for popular marathons like the Chicago and Marine Corps Marathon.
I don’t think it is a reflection of the event or organization just a reflection of poorly designed web registration systems. It would be great if these sites would use Google, Amazon, or design better systems that can handle registration traffic.
the website worked better when I used firefox instead of IE, and managed to get three sliders for the kids. Went back later to get tickets for myself and the spouse, and could only get single slider tickets via chrome (using Firefox keep giving me a “your cart is empty” message). Wanted unlimited tickets for the kids, but those seemed to have gone in the first couple of minutes.
After numerous tries on numerous devices all day, I just got 3 3-slide tickets on the iPhone for the time slot in the early evening.
I just tried again and was able to purchase unlimited slide tickets that were showing as sold out this morning.

OK, against my better judgement, I’ve purchased 2 super slider tickets for the kids. Hope the event is more pleasant than the purchase experience.
I was able to purchase two triple slide tickets at around 2:30 PM. Of course they are at a different time slot from the single ticket I was able to purchase this morning. Should be interesting.
Being the early bird for this event appears to have been a disadvantage.
Got 2 triple slide tickets just now. No problem at all with the system. Only time slot available was
5:30-7:00pm.
I am very disappointed that I wasn’t able to get tickets to this event that I’m otherwise completely uninterested in.
Better slide in your backyard?
It connects the cooler full of PBR to the Big Green Egg.
I’m sad that they took away the beach party to do this. My oldest is short for her age, so she can’t slide. I’m not really sad though, I’ve heard that it’s a giant cluster mess.
I bought two tickets, and I’m not sure if I want to keep them. My son will doesn’t handle the heat very well (redhead problems), and I didn’t anticipate the crazy long lines/heat stroke. Does anyone how about the return policy? I would also be willing to sell them at price, if that’s ok.
I am mostly sad the city send a press statement about “(u)s Decaturites”.
Who wrote this?
Um, so it’s “We Decaturites are…” ?
Yes. Us is an object and we is subjective.
Us are so used to buying tickets for the Beer Festival
vs
We are so used to buying tickets for the Beer Festival
It seems like some people will be really delighted if this venture fails so they can say “I told you so.”
I agree! But I have as much confidence in the DBA as most DM commentators have in the DPD. I am excited about this event and I know that many of our neighbors are working hard to make sure it goes smoothly.
