The Great Frame Up Opening Location in Downtown Decatur

greatframeup

The Great Frame Up is planning a new location in Downtown Decatur in the old Swirlin’ Twirlin’ space in the 335 West Ponce building.  So says the “Coming Soon” sign in the window.

The custom framing franchise has a bunch of locations around Atlanta and 135 locations nationwide according to its website.

Also: here’s our so-called “report” on when The Great Frame Up location in the Publix plaza at N. Decatur and Clairmont closed back in 2011.

Thanks to FMFats for sending in the photo!

  1. Name sounds familiar. Where did they used to be? Was that the name of the frame shop up in the Emory Commons shopping center near the place where the Chase bank is now? Near the old bookstore. ??

    1. Yes, there was one at the shopping center with Publix. I used to get my framing done there and do remember used to have an employee–the manager maybe–that was very good at framing needlework.

I was thinking the other day, how there used to be such a wide selection of framing shops in the Decatur area but now I didn’t know where to get my framing done– so this is a very timely announcement for me.

      1. Larkspur, I think you’re referring to Haley at the Emory Commons Great Frame Up. She did a lot of our framing, but she’s out of the business and working in the local film industry. Her husband Eddie owns the Ale Yeah! stores. She was great, and liked the challenge of some of the odder stuff we used to bring in.

        1. Sounds like it was Haley who did my framing–she was the reason I kept going back there!

    2. I still have a gift certificate for them. Wonder if they’ll accept it?!

  2. We already have a wonderful frame shop on Clairmont . In such a small city, why do we need another shop?

    1. Choices, options, new ideas, different perspectives – never bad things. The city is 20,000 people, with who knows how many in Greater Decatur. Probably big enough to support two wonderful frame shops it would seem. One thing’s for sure, we’ll find out.

    2. One thing is that people in Decatur have consistently voiced a desire for Ponce to include more services and goods stores, beyond just our obvious preponderance of choices for food and beverage. A frame shop ain’t a place to buy socks and underwear, of course, but it’s at least a small step towards this goal.

      1. And all those new condos and apartments will need to be decorated. Don’t underestimate the value of a good frame to enhance your interior decorating. I hope the new store will hire quality folks like the individual discussed above. I need LOTS of help when I get around to framing things.

    3. Louise, it’s to your benefit if the prosperity of Decatur retailers doesn’t depend ENTIRELY on Decatur residents’ discretionary spending. A really good frame store is a retail destination that attracts customers from beyond the moat, bringing dollars to its neighboring storefronts as well as its own coffers.

    4. Isn’t that frame shop to which you refer super fancy? This is a chain will likely have better deals and prices for people who cannot afford to have a gallery framer. Regardless, this isn’t the same thing as 32 juice bars coming and the 345 yogurt stores that went out of business in the last year.

  3. We are excited to announce that our second The Great Frame Up location will indeed be opening this summer in the Decatur community at 335 W. Ponce De Leon Ave. and we will offer full-service custom picture framing, glass and mat replacements, and shadowboxing services. We will be looking to hire experienced framers for our new store. Until we open, please visit us at our first location at 1409 N. Highland Ave.
