Decatur Turkey Tour Continues!

Seems like the turkey successfully made it across Scott Boulevard and is currently pursuing the residential streets of Chelsea Heights.  Rob sent along this pic this morning.

We also received a report that the turkey briefly left the city limits last night and took a stroll down Artwood.

  1. Artwood/Parkwood/Coventry/Clifton have had their own wild turkeys in the past. Don’t you think the multiple sightings indicate several turkeys vs. one who gets around a lot?

  2. Saw a tom and two hens about 3 years ago off of N. Decatur on Princeton Way. So back then, there were several (hope there still are)

  3. about 6 years ago – Westchester Hills had a family of five that visited our hood quite often. Hoping that these recent sightings are some descendants!

  4. We had a mother and three chicks come onto our street last spring when the chicks were babies. Like this guy, they came out of the woods off Arcadia near Cragie. They generally move the chicks away from predators. They hung out here, grew up, slept on our roofs, then roamed Avondale, crossed Memorial and looped back around. Last I heard Louise and The Girls, as we called them, were around Adams Street. This guy ate on our street every day alone. A couple of days ago he wandered toward downtown. It’s mating season and they generally travel by gender unless the males break off to search for females. We suspect this one is on a mission.

  5. Could this turkey be fitted with a GPS tracker? I’d love to follow its explorations.

  6. Happy to report the turkey is back home today and having breakfast in my front yard! He likes berries and seeds.
