What the what??!  From The Decatur Minute blog…

In celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Decatur Business Association, the DBA along with the City of Decatur has decided to shake up our traditional summer event, the Decatur Beach Party, and make a huge SPLASH this summer. For one day only, there will be a 1000 foot long water slide in the middle of W. Ponce de Leon Ave, stretching from Clairemont down just past Ponce de Leon Place. The event is called Slide the City and this event has been sweeping the nation!

You can expect more details ( and ticket information) in the next few weeks but for now, mark your calendars for  Saturday, July 25th and start shopping for your favorite inflatable!

Check out the video of the slide here

“Honey, I’m just going to slide down to the CVS and pick up my prescription.  Be right baaaaaaaack……”

According to the Slide the City website, events are scheduled all over the U.S., including yet-to-be scheduled events in Atlanta and Athens.

  1. The DBA does a great amount for our community. When our kids were younger they always enjoyed the Easter egg hunts DBA sponsored. Very certain the kids in Decatur will enjoy this. Much appreciation DBA.

  2. I guess there is always a first time to shove your kids out of the way. I’m on this!

  3. Ouch. Found this from a Sat Lake City run last summer. No idea what Decatur will cost, but it’s not cheap:

Dashing down the slide costs $15 for a single go, with a three-ride wristband priced at $25 and all-day passes available for $35

  4. There are many Decatur’s around the country. Can you tell me what STATE this Decatur is in??

  5. Too bad about the cost. Definitely, not for underprivileged, large families. 🙁 They should consider sponsors and/or concession stands, tee shirts, etc. $5 a ride, $15 for a day pass is plenty. Greed sets in, like Disneyland. Out of reach for poor city folks.

    1. See our follow up post. Those aren’t the prices. The City of Decatur said the cost would be similar to the Beach Party, which has been between $8-$10 in the past.
