Though there was talk that My Parents Basement might open a brick-and-mortar location in Decatur, they seem to have ultimately decided on Avondale.

See pic above from their Facebook page, which included this message…

We’re official!! We found our home in Avondale!!

Decaturish reports they plan to open in July or August.

  1. Was hoping for proximity to the square, but this is still amazing news. So excited for this new drunken nerd mecca.

  2. I fail to see how this business will be successful, but maybe I don’t know how many grown men and women actually read comic books. This is an awfully large space for a concept like this. I hope it succeeds, of course, but the chances don’t look good to this reader, who gave up on comic books before his age hit double digits.

    1. This seems like a silly comment. Suffice to say, there are way more adults who read comics than you appear to be aware of. In fact, I would venture to say that a majority of comics consumers (especially of the dead trees variety) are “grown men and women,” as most young’ins these days do most of their reading (comics or otherwise) on digital devices.

But as DawgFan points out, comics are just the hook, just as other bars seek to attract drinking patrons with televised sports or some other sideshow. The profits come from the adult beverages.
