Portable Classroom Installation Begins at Renfroe Middle School

renfroe trailer construction

Kathleen sends along this pic of her two girls standing in front of the start of construction to install the new trailers/learning cottages/portables at Renfroe Middle School.

Back in February it was reported that Renfroe would need between 10 and 13 new portable classrooms for the coming school year and that all 30 new trailers would be installed by July.

  1. So they’ll just stand there while they build it around them? Impressive.

  2. Does anyone know if these new mobile homes contain formaldehyde? Perhaps they can leave the windows open to off gas until next school year…

    1. I think the formaldehyde issues have been with a completely different type of trailer.

  3. 🙁 I hate to admit it but I haven’t been as connected with what’s going on at the middle school as I should be. I have a 3rd grader and we have so much going on already… When is renovation supposed to happen? Will the “cottages” be gone in a couple years?

    1. Only the $82 million bond has 100% of kids in a classroom in 2020– and that’s in a low growth prediction. If a smaller bond is passed (or if no bond passes) or if there is higher growth in the school age population, CSD will probably still have portables beyond 2020

  4. Let’s see. Enrollment is exploding throughout the system. Next year your child will go to the 4/5 academy which is bursting at the seams. Then on to the middle school which is going to be expanded, but not enough to meet projected enrollment. Then to the HS which is in the same boat. There will be a city wide vote this fall to approve (or not) borrowing tens of millions to expand schools. I’d suggest it’s time for you to get “connected”.

    1. I’m a fan of people owning snarky comments by signing them with their full names. You know, so when we meet at the grocery store I can give you a hug. <3

Great news! I am not as oblivious as you may have hoped. I am aware of the enrollment issue in general, but haven't dug in enough to understand the timing of everything. I did the Open City Hall thing online and, for the record, I am in favor of taxing the heck out of everybody. Planning for growth is always an issue that school systems are woefully behind on. Looks like our little town is no different.

In other news, I am loving lumpintheroad's NMH profile pic!!!

        Good morning DSA,
Did the Open City Hall thing you did online convince you that “taxing the heck out of everybody” is the right way to go?

        1. Haha! Did you also notice how “informational” and leading it was? 😉 No, that was already my opinion. I did exaggerate a little though… “the heck” is a little much.
