Looks like Fodor’s has named Decatur’s Revolution Doughnuts, one of the 10 Best Doughnut Shops in the US.  They write…

The product of a Kickstarter campaign,Revolution Doughnuts opened its doors in 2012 headed by Maria Moore Riggs, whose dedication to churning out fresh, handmade doughnuts has turned Revolution into an Atlanta favorite. The family-owned and -operated business makes its own yeast, cake, “low-gluten” doughnuts (made with almond flower), glazes, and toppings from scratch. Keep an eye out for the Nutella cream puff and the salted-caramel baked cake doughnut.

On the road and want to compare to the other 9 best doughnut shops in the U.S.?  Here’s the list with appropriate linkage:

  • Union Square Donuts in Boston
  • Dough in Brooklyn
  • The Donut Stop in St. Louis
  • Glazed & Infused in Chicago
  • Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR and Denver
  • Gourdough’s in Austin
  • The Holy Donut in Portland, ME
  • Federal Donuts in Philadelphia
  • Donut Bar in San Diego

  1. Wow, it’s amazing to remember that these guys started out at the small Decatur Farmer’s Market on Sundays then raised money via Kickstarter to expand to a retail shop (and paid back contributors with free doughnuts later!). They have provided jobs to many a nice DHS teen. And I love the multiple ways to interpret their name!

  2. I love me some Revolution but “Glazed & Confused” is a darn fine name for a donut shop.

    1. My thought exactly, so I went to their site. Their logo is cool too with the Chicago skyline kind of hidden in the glazing on a donut.

  3. It’s a good doughnut shop, but I don’t see how they could overlook Sublime Doughnuts, near Georgia Tech.

    1. TOTALLY agree! My personal opinion is that Sublime has the best donuts in town.

  4. very interesting. I’ve enjoyed Sublime Doughnuts and Dutch Monkey Doughnuts more but I suppose it’s just personal preference. to me Revolution is tasty but a little overpriced. I’m not expecting Dunkin Donuts prices but the last time I went 2 plain-ish doughnuts and a medium coffee cost me almost $7.
congrats to them though as they are putting out a quality product.

  5. Love both Sublime & Revolution, with a slight preference for Sublime. That being said, Revolution has the advantage of proximity–I’m not going to schlep all the way over to the GA Tech area for doughnuts, when I can walk to Revolution in under 10 minutes. Plus, Revolution has delicious coffee drinks!
