Atlanta Police Chase Ends In Downtown Decatur

image

Residents are reporting a car chase this afternoon that ran through the streets of Decatur.

Doug writes in a comment…

Police chase. I live on the downtown side of coventry and a car blew through the stop signs doing at least 80. Almost ran a car off the road and luckily didn’t hurt anyone by the toy park. Looks like they got them downtown

Brianc also sent in this photo and reported from the scene…

Just saw the aftermath of some kind of police chase. Apparently suspect ditched SUV on Ponce just east of Church, in the spaces in front of Great Clips. Detectives were searching the vehicle. Chopper still in the area, so don’t know if suspects were caught or not. Vehicle is an Expedition.

Decatur PD’s Sgt Ross tells us it was an Atlanta Police chase. We’ll follow up when we have more info.

  1. So glad this didn’t happen when school was letting out and middle and high schoolers were on their way home.

      1. Hmmm. Good point. I have the impression that the suspect(s) fled into the Downtown Decatur area and weren’t caught. It does seem that a lockdown of Glennwood, DHS, and maybe Clairemont might be in order. But there may be information about the suspect(s) whereabouts that we don’t know.

  2. The vehicle on the right facing the wrong direction is the one in question. This was about 12:15. Seems like the police had been there for a while by this point, though I could still hear the police helicopter somewhere close. Lots of people out and about for lunch on a nice day, so it’s fortunate no one was injured as far as we know.

  3. Any update on if they caught the suspects? And if not….a description of them?

  4. I was at the toy park and saw this car come careening into Nelson Ferry from Coventry going incredibly fast. He screeched around a car waiting at the light and went through the red light and almost collided with a car coming from the post office. I saw him almost hit two other cars on his way into town. Not two minutes later I saw the helicopter circling. I’m glad no one was hurt and I hope they find this guy soon. I saw a glimpse of his face and arm as he went by… Does that help? Haha. Too bad it was only for a second.

  5. WTF? and Holy Mackerel! i just don’t think us sheltered and insular Decaturites are ready for this crap!
I think we are going to need rec. center counseling sessions on how we transition from small town USA to small town USA with big city issues!
