Foodie Buddha reports that Brushstroke Sushi Izakaya is opening in the old Houndstooth Road spot along Church Street in downtown Decatur .  Here’s a teaser from Foodie Buddha…

…A modern 2,500 sqft sushi bar and Izakaya from Itamae Jason Liang, Brushstroke Sushi Izakaya is set to open at 316 Church St. As with most restaurant openings, there is no set date but Liang is hoping to be serving sushi by late this summer. Devotees to Japanese cuisine will be pleasantly surprised that Liang’s vision, though definitely contemporary, is more inline with the traditions of the Japanese sushi-ya than Atlanta is used to seeing.

Lots more info at the other end of that Foodie Buddha link.

  1. ouch. sushi avenue might not be the greatest, but that seemed uncalled for.

    1. I noticed that too. But in all honesty, when we want sushi we go to Sushi House Hawakawa on Buford Hwy. Not exactly a short drive…

    2. I didn’t take that as a dig on Sushi Avenue, but as a comment regarding metro Atlanta Sushi as a whole. I’m not name names, but I’m thinking of one that rhymes with the name of a Chinese Disney Princess…

      1. If you read the article, you’ll definitely think it’s a dig. DM kindly left out the first line of the posted paragraph.

    3. Sushi made by Japanese people at Sushi Avenue. Liang is Taiwanese, offering up an “authentic” experience. That is the height of irony.

  2. The way it’s going, soon we’re going to be spending more on eating out than on our mortgage. And, sadly, that is only a bit of an exaggeration.

    1. If you’re anything like me, it’s no exaggeration at all. We recently lost our tenants in our rental house and now we’re paying the mortgage with no rent coming in while we try to sell. Not eating out more than covers the mortgage for that house.

  3. This new place sounds awesome!! I expect it will co-exist with Sushi Ave. and Green Ginger quite nicely!

  4. I’ll put out there that of all of the many sushi places I’ve eaten in ATL and beyond, Sushi Ave is my favorite.

  5. Rulz. The only decent sushi I’ve had in the ATL area was at some place with an unfortunate name like Chocolate Starfish or something. When I went, they had uni, they had natto, and they knew how to put together dishes right, not just the standard, or a different way of plating standard. Maybe this new place will cater to obnoxious snobs like me.
