Super Bowl XLIX Open Thread

What could possibly make watching the big game tonight any better?  What about chatting along with your favorite DM commenters?

Here are some things that we’re interested in knowing…

  • What are you eating?
  • What are you drinking?
  • What were your favorite/least favorite commercials?
  • Oh, and of course – what do you think of the game?

Also, feel free to send in your pics of game day to [email protected] and I’ll post ’em here.

Reusing Susan’s church sign photo, which you may or may not have noticed was quite popular on Facebook this past week.

  1. Firstly, love you DM! Secondly, and in response to your questions: Brats boiled in beer and grilled, Shrimp cocktail, Tombstone pizzas for the kids, grapes, apples, pears, cheese plates, homemade guacamole and salsas, chips and dips and ice cream for dessert!

Loving the game…want it to be a close one!

  2. Check out this really interesting story on Decaturish about the Decatur man who’s Reddit story turned into the NFL’s domestic violence Super Bowl ad.

  3. Jeff Bridges sounding the OM bedside for SquareSpace was an amazingly conceived marketing gimmick. I went to the site and fell for the whole thing.

  4. Read on Twitter that Budweiser just recently bought the company that made pumpkin beer a big thing.

  5. Didn’t see them all, but my favorite commercial was the Avocados from Mexico (!) one, the “world’s first draft day”. I also liked the BMW spot for the i3.

Worst commercial: Hands down, the Nationwide “dead boy” ad. Terrible idea. Second worst was the Chevy truck ad. Never a good idea to make people think their cable went out before the Super Bowl (though I suppose it will be talked about, just as The Sopranos series finale was).

  6. “Like a girl” was the ad that’ will stay with me. Don’t know how well it sold product (Always,) but it sure grabbed my heart.

  7. I loved the “like a girl” ad. though I am very far from being a “femi-nazi” the atmosphere in our society that makes men put each other down by referring to them as women in some form or another has started to bother me the last few years.
    oh, and GO PATS!!!
