A recent Decaturish post reminds us that we haven’t reviewed the total Decatur crime stats for 2014 yet. Though the Decatur Police Department won’t release the total figures for this year yet because “there is some audit/verification that has to happen”, according to Sgt. Jennifer Ross, it looks like overall reported crime in the city has declined from 2013.
The preliminary totals show that overall crime is down 10%, driven primarily by a drop in robberies and burglaries, down 29% and 26%, respectively. Aggrevated assaults and larceny declined single-digits, while homicide, rape and aggravated assault were all unchanged from year-ago.
The only category to see an increase was motor vehicle theft, up 34% from last year.
