  1. For fellow beer snobs…The days of it being only on tap are at an end: Wild Heaven Eschaton in bottles ships today.

  2. Why are there so many downtown retail businesses closing when we are onto cusp of adding a fair number of downtown residents? Are the monthly leases increasing? Can we not sustain the retail?

    1. Having reported on this for a while now, I can tell you that closings generally pick up a bit at year end. And unscientificly, overall closings seem to have slowed down a bit compared to prior years. Or they’re about the same. Definitely hasn’t increased of late. I think that’s due in large part to the influx of proven businesses locating here with second, third locations.

    2. End of the year is “go or get off the pot” time for a lot of businesses – if that Christmas rush isn’t enough to keep them afloat, nothing is.

  3. My unscientific completely not backed up by facts theory is that the city is not heavily populated enough to sustain as much retail as there’s space. Decatur has become a destination for dining and folks from outside the city park, walk to the restaurant, eat, walk back to their cars, and drive back to Midtown or Grant Park or wherever. Same thing with the thousands that come for beer, wine, book, and arts festivals. People may shop at the booths, but the local merchants get very little benefit from the influx of outsiders.

  4. My new year’s resolution is to look into solar power for the domicile. Who in the Decatur area is good to consult with about residential solar?

    1. Doc, I don’t know, but this link might help.

I also think somebody from Decatur works at Southface.
