    1. This is a threadjack but why don’t they make cars with rubber bumpers anymore? Fender scratches were no big deals when we had those kind of bumpers. You didn’t notice scratches and dings. Now even a scratch requires a big investment to remediate. I suppose that it was about aesthetics and rubber bumpers look less sleek and more utilitarian but I would pay extra for one.

      1. Yeah, I think that’s it, they just look bad. With modern sensors and alarms, you have to be almost brain dead to back your car into something and scratch your bumper, so that’s a significant level of protection. Though of course it won’t help if someone hits you.

        1. And there’s plenty of cars that are not old enough to have rubber bumpers but are old enough that cars didn’t come with sensors and alarms. In fact, plenty of brand new cars still don’t come with them unless you buy one of the upgrade packages. We have a 1 1/2 year old car doesn’t have them except for a really dumb back-up noise. I know if I’m backing up or not; that’s not the issue. It’s whether there’s is something in the path of my backing up that I need to hear about.

      2. I’ve always thought it was a purposeful money-making venture for the car companies to have easily scratch/dentable bumpers…
