So, Vox loves mashed potatoes. Hard to argue with that. But mac & cheese at Thanksgiving, when the table is already jammed with starches? Just seems wrong. Very wrong.
Definitely not a New England tradition.
But you are in the south now, so just go with it.
This Vox list means nothing to me because we don’t have stuffing in the south, we have dressing. 🙂
do people really hate on sweet potato casserole that much? It’s dessert you can put on your plate from the get go.
It depends on what you grew up with. My New England mom made regular baked yams and those are what I like. My immigrant mid-Atlantic grandmother did candied yams with marshmallows and I thought they were sickeningly sweet and yucky although I would pick off the nicely browned marshmallows. I find truly sweet, sweet potato casseroles to be cloying. But there’s a newer style that’s more savory than sweet–that I can stomach. I much prefer squash casserole.
Yes, I hate it that much.
Sugar on sweet ‘taters…
If you like it, bless yore heart.
It’s terrible when overly nutmegged and marshmallow topped, but delicious when buttery and brown sugar and pecan topped. Two different things entirely, I say.
Emmett Smith Sweet Potato Casserole all the way!
DHCA goes to great lengths in its post to say they are not supporting annexation, contrary to your link title.
If your erroneous headline about DHCA is typical of your accuracy, I need to stop wasting my time here.
So no one wants Medlock, Midway Woods, and Scottdale, huh?
Looks like those are the only three areas that would be “islands” if all these cities were created based on this map. Am I missing any others and what would be the reasoning for this?
I doubt that there is enough valuable commercial property in S. DeKalb to sustain a city, so that part of the county is likely to remain unincorporated. IMO, there is a good chance that DeKalb could end up in bankruptcy like Jefferson County did in Alabama.
The Jefferson County situation was totally different and had zero to do with annexation. It was a sewer project criminal boondoggle concocted by big banks in collusion with corrupt and inept local government officials. Matt Taibi has written a few great articles in Rolling Stone about it, which you can easily find online. It’s mind blowing and very interesting how it all played out.
Maybe more like Detriot, which will serve as a model going forward for governments with crippling, unfunded pension payments.
