Decatur’s Lifelong Community Advisory Board Seeking Input

From the City of Decatur…

Decatur’s Lifelong Community Advisory Board invites the community to complete a survey to help plan the direction for Decatur’s future as a place where people of all ages and resources can live throughout their lifetimes. The board welcomes the community’s input to reach these goals. All Decatur residents, not only senior citizens, may complete the survey at:

The Decatur City Commission created the board to fulfill the goals of the 2010 Strategic Plan, including assuring our city is a safe, healthy and inviting community for all ages. If you prefer to complete a hard copy of the survey or would like more information, contact staff liaison Lee Ann Harvey at [email protected] or call . The deadline to complete the survey isFriday, November 21, 2014.

  1. The questionnaire – is the purpose to provide data for Phase I of a process to create a Community Action Plan for a Compassionate Decatur?

  2. I figure that while everyone on this blog pooh poohs this and argues about whether “a lifelong community” is just politically correct jargon or a worthwhile goal identified by the strategic planning process, I’ll be the one who fills out the survey and my answers will WIN!

    1. It is. What concerns me is that, statistically speaking, women outlive men so my biggest retirement concern is are we going to recruit elderly men? What if I outlive my partner? Will City of Decatur provide me with some hot prospects? who will chase me around in a walker?

      1. The good/bad news is that, thanks to increased opportunities for women and the obesity/diabetes/metabolic syndrome crisis in the U.S., women are facing increased stress and risk factors and the longevity gap may be closing (in the wrong direction).

  3. “Communities should be places where people of all ages and abilities can live as long as they’d like.”

I’d like to live to be a 107, please.
