I drove by around 6:20 this morning, and there were three police cars out front and caution tape blocking the parking lot. By the time I returned in the other direction around 7:45, all were gone.I decided to stop by on my way to work around 9:30 this morning only to find that the store itself was closed. However, two pleasant (especially considering the circumstances) employees were out front at a table handing out free coffee. They explained to me that the back (glass) door was smashed sometime last night after all employees were gone. Thieves tried to take a safe (I did not find out if they were successful), but they did not abscond with any espresso equipment. They hope to be back up and running before long.
Stopped in for my morning coffee today to find out that Dancing Goats had been broken into last night (after hours, thankfully no one was hurt). They are closed today, but it sounded like they plan on re-opening tomorrow.
Two businesses on a major road broken into overnight. Those are some bold, if incompetent, thieves.
So maybe I’m missing it, but where was the other break-in?
according to Decaturish, the other business was Cafe Lily.
There has been a rash of business break ins all over DeKalb lately. The strip malls across from Northlake mall were raided a couple of weeks ago, the strip mall at Oak Grove was also raided a few days after that. There have been MANY businesses with broken out doors.
Hope the PD can catch this ring!
So sorry for Dancing Goats, my caffeine heroes. Glad no one was hurt and the equipment survives. Wonderful gesture, handing out free coffee.
We were broken into on Sept. 27 on the 2700 block of East Ponce. Same thing they used a cinder block to break the door in, broke the cash register & stole deposit, cash & credit cards but didn’t take any office equipment.
Dancing Goats is back up already! Serving everything but can only take credit cards. Amazing recovery!
