Here’s something one of our civil code experts around here can answer: How are taxis/Uber/Lyft regulated in Decatur? I occasionally pick my wife up at the Doraville MARTA station, and I always see a lot of taxi cabs around that area (mostly with Spanish names on them), far more than I see around Decatur.
I assume there is little regulation of cabs outside of Atlanta, but are cabs and their alternatives regulated by city or county?
Uber and others are not regulate because it’s considered “ride sharing”. Uber’s drivers do not actually work for the company. They sign up to provide rides and must follow Ubers guidelines on operating a clean, safe and inviting vehicle.
Taxis companies are suing services such as Uber because they do not have to comply to the same regulations as taxis.
In regards to Decatur/Doraville I think it’s just the difference in location/demand/clientele. I would think people who take Marta in Decatur live walking distance or very close by since there is not parking lot. I do see taxis at the Avondale Marta Station often.
If you haven’t taken Uber then try it….it’s awesome…cheaper….and easy.
Uber is awesome. The taxis have sued Uber, however. It will be interesting to see what happens with that suit or if anyone in the legislature will file a bill concerning ride sharing vs taxis.
