Unfinished Avondale Retail Building Finally Sold

Interesting! From the AJC’s Bill Banks in the Friday County-by-County round-up….

The so-called “erector set” property on College Avenue and Maple Street in Avondale Estates, long a city eyesore, was recently bought by Euramex Management.

The sale was confirmed by real estate broker Pierce Owens of Cushman & Wakefield, which previously owned the property.

A two-story unfinished building whose construction was stopped in 2008, the erector set will be replaced, according to city manager Clai Brown, by a first-level retail and upper-level residential development.

  1. Finally! I know I wasn’t the only one tired of looking at that P.O.S. reminder of our fatally flawed capitalist economic model.

  2. Hopefully, “replaced” means demolished. The erector set was also designed as residential over retail (Finders Keepers), but the existing building is too close to the road to allow for proper pedestrian and cycling improvements.

  3. Same company that is buying the brown field that was the Fenner-Dunlop conveyor belt factory next to Loredo Dr. They build lovely suburban style apartment complexes.

  4. Not sure how these are lovely:

  5. At least something will be happening on that site. I thought initially it was supposed to be a mini Publix.

  6. What is going on with the old James Joyce pub? I thought I’d read it was purchased, but the bank owned for sale sign is still out front.

    1. There’s a closing expected in the next week or so, but by someone looking to lease to an operator (as opposed to an owner operator). According to reports, this pending owner does not currently have any interested or committed tenants.
