Decatur Police: Family Dollar Robbed, Suspect in Custody

Decatur PD sent out this notice yesterday…

On 07-12-14 at approximately 9:17 am, Decatur Police responded to a robbery at the Oakhurst Family Dollar store.  The suspect entered the store wearing jeans, a gray hoodie sweatshirt, red ski mask and sunglasses and walked behind the counter and demanded money.  The suspect had one of his hands inside of the pocket of his sweatshirt and it was unknown if he had a weapon.  The suspect took approximately $100.00 in cash from two registers and fled the store on foot towards Oakview Road.  An officer arriving in the area was flagged down by a cyclist who stated the suspect jumped a fence at Ansley Street and Jefferson Place.  An officer saw the suspect at the dead end of Olympic Place throwing something up onto a roof of an apartment building.  A foot chase ensued over fences and through yards from Olympic Place to Mead Road to Feld Avenue and the suspect was apprehended in a yard in the 200 block of Mead Road.  Prior to the officers locating and chasing the suspect, a second victim driving on Oakview Road at Ansley Street saw the suspect running as he slowed to turn and the suspect approached his driver’s side window and demanded the vehicle.  He accelerated and fled the area.  Officers recovered the sunglasses and a screwdriver from the roof of the apartment building where the suspect was seen throwing something and the cash from the suspect.

  1. Glad to hear they got the guy.

Small correction: tag it “Family Dollar,” not “Family Collar.”

    1. I’m going to let you think a bit longer about whether that actually requires correction…

      Must be a way homer.

      1. Yea, I thought of that a couple of minutes after hitting submit–oh well, I brought attention to the tag anyway.

  2. Probation for 3 days. Apology. And promise not to do it again. That’s a pretty harsh sentence.

    1. Maybe not– see post on Decaturish for list of charges. The robber’s 22 yrs old and had a warrant already out on him.
