Outside of Decatur, at Which Three Stores Do You Shop Most Often?
Decatur Metro | July 1, 2014 | 11:10 amThis is a question that’s been posted on the city’s Open City Hall website since last September.
There are 23 pages of answers on the OCH website, but it will still be interesting to compare answers here!

Outside the COD limits, I shop at Big Kroger, YDFM, and, um, Amazon.
Not that any of them are all that often but it would probably be: Publix and FedEx/Kinkos @ North Decatur; and Target @ Edgewood.
Costco, YDFM, Trader Joe’s.
YDFM, Publix, Target.
In rough order of frequency: Tower Package store on Buford Hwy. Buford Hwy Farmers Market, Big Kroger.
The explanation for the first two would involve two of the three restaurants we eat at most often outside of COD: Gu’s Bistro and Sushi House Hawakawa.
Hobby Lobby, Chick-fil-A, and WalMart
Oh…I thought about it too long. You beat me.
HA! Excellent answer.
In order of frequency: Publix at N. Decatur, Costco at Brookhaven, Target at Edgewood. If we are counting online-only stores, then Amazon edges out Target.
+!
Publix at Emory Commons, Big Kroger, Amazon.
Publix on Glenwood
Best Buy
Home Depot
(I generally check Amazon before any “stores”)
YDFM, Kosher Kroger, Target @ North Druid Hills
+1
Publix at Emmory Commons and less than once a month Target and Walmart
Publix at Emory Commons. YFDM. Intown Ace. Also love me some REI.
Starship, Green’s, and the First Baptist Church bookstore.
I’m probably gonna regret asking this, but does the First Baptist Church really have a bookstore?
And if so, which one outside of Decatur are you referring to?
Publix @ EC, Amazon Prime, Decatur Package (just outside City, great gourmet beer selection in cans for summer and Herb’s monthly wine 6 bottles for $60 with tasting notes is awesome)
The Clermont
Whole Foods on Ponce, Lowe’s @ Edgewood, Willie’s on N Decatur
Costco Brookhaven – Publix Brookhaven – Trader Joe’s Buckhead
Big Kroger, Marshall’s at N. Dekalb Mall & trader Joe’s in Midtown.
Publix at Emory Commons, Intown Ace, and Target on North Druid Hills.
Costco, YDFM, and Publix Shamrock Plaza. Guess we spend most of our dollars on food!
Target (Edgewood or Druid Hills), Publix (Glenwood or Emory) Marshall’s (North DeKalb)
There are stores outside of Decatur????? Does that mean we have to get in a car????
Publix, Target and Whole Foods.
Folks, don’t forget that Intown Ace Hardware is not within the city limits of Decatur! In that case, my list is Intown Ace Hardware, YDFM, Big Kroger (on Dekalb Industrial).
YDFM, Emory Publix, Perimeter DSW Shoe Warehouse (don’t judge–it’s a sickness).
Isn’t there one in Toco Hill?
That’s the Shoe Center. Different, smaller store.
Decatur Package, Intown Ace and Big Kroger (and Cheryl, no car necessary except Big Kroger – though it would be nice for sidewalks the last few yards to Intown Ace (PLEASE, DEKALB)).
Part of the horse swapping about WalMart coming in was more sidewalks along the north side of Scott Blvd.
It’s the Fuqua folks who are contributing towards completing the sidewalk along Scott Blvd (and the 6 point intersection pedestrian upgrades).
More funding is needed to cover the cost of the sidewalk installation. Perhaps the existing nearby businesses would be willing to pitch in to make it happen? Or City of Decatur since leadership is banking on lassoing in the area in the near future?
YDFM, Intown Ace, Amazon
Decatur Wine & Spirits ((L’ville Hwy), Rainbow Grocery, Big Kroger
Big Kroger, Aldi, Target, YDFM
Nieman-Marcus and Tiffany, of course.
I was perusing the answers on the city’s website.
There were a handful that listed Richard’s Variety Store. Really? People go there that often? For what on a regular basis?
OK, I have to admit that we go there somewhat often for presents; stocking stuffers, hostess gifts, games, misc kitchen stuff (red pepper shaker type stuff – where else would you find that?), gifts for kids, and cards. When we are feeling flush we have drinks at Pinewood and shop at Heliotrope, and when we are feeling thrifty we buy Three Buck Chuck and shop at Richard’s.
When we were teaching our child how to pick out thoughtful gifts for other people we let her loose in Richard’s with a $20 bill. It was fun!
Maybe it is because I grew up spending my allowance at the local “variety store” in my hometown (and at the variety store in my grandmother’s town during summer trips), but I would love to see a Richard’s type store replace Family Dollar in Oakhurst.
I just looked at the city’s website too, and it reminded me that we also frequently shop at Candler Park Market. I love love love their lunch counter, their avocados are nearly always ripe, and they are open on Christmas day as a service to the neighborhood. Did I mention their lunch counter? CPM is awesome!!
Sevananda, Whole Paycheck, Target at Edgewood, Walmart, Marshall’s at N. Dekalb Mall
I used to shop at YDFM, but I will never go there again — their clear cutting of all of that land makes me sick. I’ve had a mental list of minor grievances with that place for years, but this is the last straw.
OK
I agree. Why couldn’t build their warehouse around the trees? Or IN the trees. Treehouse warehouse!
Your Dekalb Ewoks Market has a nice ring to it.
+1. Poor (lazy?) way of expanding their footprint. Cheaper, I guess, but so environmentally bad. It’s just so “70s” looking.
The weekly Memorial Dr run to Aldi, Belvedere Plaza Dollar Tree, and Walmart pretty much takes care of the basics. (Value Village rocks too– I try hard to stick to only 1-2 times a month! :0)
Publix at Emory Commons, Intown Ace, and Decatur Package Store.
Lowes and Target in Edgewood, YDFM.
Rainbow Natural Foods, YDFM, Big Kroger, Tiny Bistro
Various Toco Hills establishments, Buford Hwy Farmers Market. ALDI on Clairmont on the come up lately….
Anyone think OCH is just looking for some direction to expand the city limits again based on these poll results?
