Ratio: Bakeshop Opens Walk-In Location On Commerce Drive

Carl points there’s a new bakeshop open in Decatur as of today.  Ratio: Bakeshop is now open at 755 Commerce Drive Suite T-100 – that’s the Commerce Plaza highrise. (Here’s it’s location on a Google Streetview)

The shop’s Facebook page describes itself as…

We are a modern American patisserie that seeks to elevate the art of creating unforgettable cakes, cheesecakes, pies, brownies, bars, cookies and candies by striking the perfect balance in everything we do—from our use of the finest ingredients and seasonal foods available to our infusion of pure passion and sublime flavor in everything we create. And a little fun with fractions along the way…

Creative Loafing profiled and interviewed Ratio owner Chris Flores back in 2013 when he was working out of a shared kitchen and supplying pastries to many restaurants around Atlanta. Of his creations, Cliff Bostock commented…

I ate my way through a box of his creations recently – some kinda arty, most homey – and loved them. They are exactly what he says, the kind of pastries that transport you to childhood in a flash.

  1. Sounds like a great addition to downtown, but this location will not benefit from daytime pedestrian traffic looking for morning/afternoon snacks and take-home after work deserts.

      1. Agree, but that’s not the most pleasant area in Downtown for walking. Most folks walk on the Kroger side of Commerce if at all. Since I really want another bakery in town, even if it doesn’t have baguettes so cannot be considered a true boulangerie, I’m hoping that its location works.

    1. Does anyone know where the shop fronts? Is it the parking lot at the southeast corner of Church and Commerce?

  2. How appropriate–that’s in the same building as my dentist.

It’s pretty common for these bakery places to make the bulk of their money selling to restaurants while having a small retail presence. There was probably a cheap kitchen available in the building.

  3. I saw the new Latin bakery in the old Cookie Studio space had its door propped open this weekend. Is it open now too? Did I miss this important bit of news??

    1. La Calavera is a bakery focused on organic breads and Mexican pastries that started out selling at some of the local farmer’s markets. If you haven’t stopped by yet, do so. I’m partial to the chocolate pastry cream horns.

    1. I first read that as “morons” in Decatur. It may be time to update my eyeglass prescription…

  4. So what’s the deal with the colon, anyway? Is it some kind of visual pun?
Ratio: Bakery :: Fraction: Butcher or something?
