DQ’s Last Day Today
Decatur Metro | February 22, 2014 | 11:30 amDavid sends in this pic from Dairy Queen in downtown Decatur to remind folks that this is the shop’s last day before closing to make way for the Trinity Triangle redevelopment and that they should come by, have one last frosty treat and say good-bye.
A post yesterday on Decaturish reported that the owners are now more optimistic about reopening as part of the new development compared to when first reported.
I really do hope there’s more cause for optimism about reopening in the new development. And I also hope the city is serious about working with them to make this happen, as well as getting them through the downtime. If they can bend over backwards for the outside developers coming in to remake downtown, I would hope they can also go out of their way to help the local folks who have been part of the revival of our city.
Whatever the case, I will personally make the extreme sacrifice of ordering one or two more tasty treats today before they close.
Thank you for your exceptional customer service, your joyful attitudes and for being such a wonderful part of our community! My family as been visiting DQ since my son was in pre-k and he is now a senior in college. Every visit has been a delight!
Went in for two blizzards, and came out with two blizzards free of charge. They wouldn’t even let me leave a tip. This is a family that knows the true definition of community. All smiles, all the time. Thank you, DQ.
They saw us biking by yesterday and brought ice cream out for my kids. With sprinkles.
Love, love, love this family and business. We saw so many neighbors there today. Wishing them well for their break and look forward to seeing them again very soon. Thanks for everything!
Went tonight with my daughter and friends and the energy in the whole place was so positive. They were literally giving away ice cream and you could tell they loved having the community rally around them. We saw at least 5 people we knew- everyone was there today! We will definitely support them when they come back!
From moving into a house without kitchen being fully renovated, to crazy pregnant craving, to raising a child and having a place for sweet treats and rewards, for running in to friends after school or sports or concerts in the square … I can’t imagine not having their loving smiles, great service, and wonderful treats just over the tracks and on my way home. It’s been as happy and comfortable as having family just around the corner where the table is always set and a buffet table loaded with desserts. You have made it a special day day every time we needed you!! May we be close together again real soon, you will be missed.
THANK YOU Sooooooooo MUCH DECATUR FOR YOUR SUPPORT we at DQ also will miss our community and customers, but we are trying very hard to come back as soon as possible with the help of city of Decatur – Nisar Momin. DQ owner and operator with my family
As good a time as any to recount my favorite Decatur DQ memory: Two years ago, as my wife was in the early stages of labor with our twin boys, it somehow made sense to us on the way to the hospital to stop and get Blizzards. We knew the hospital wouldn’t be allowing her anything to eat during labor, and this seemed like the ideal last indulgence. The guys behind the counter were their usual charming selves, flipping the cups upside down as evidence of desired thickness and performing sleight of hand with the cash. Was a great mental break from what was otherwise obviously a very chaotic time.
The delivery turned out great and so did the boys, so they must have made the Blizzards right.
