Decatur Metro | October 21, 2013The AJC reported back in January that a new craft distillery was planning to open in Decatur this fall.
As the temperature drops into the mid-40s and Decaturites start thinking about fall festivals and craft porters and local apple varietals, This item pops up on the Decatur City Commission’s agenda for this evening…
The Police Department recommends issuance of an alcoholic beverage license for a retail dealer – manufacture of distilled spirits be issued to Thomas J. Williams for Independent Distilling Company, LLC, 731 East College Avenue, Unit D.
My liver votes for a moratorium on any more alcohol production in the city.
Hey, I think I just found something that Chris Billingsley and I might actually agree on!
so in other words you want the government to reinstitute prohibition and further infringe our god given rights. great.
Yes. That’s exactly what I said. And I was serious about it, too.
Next up, moratorium on old hippies.
so in other words you want us all rounded up and hauled off to Colorado where we’ll be narcotized 27/7 by prescription weed and chase snow bunnies all day. great.
what do i have to do to become an old hippie?
Colorado has 27 hour days? How did they manage that?
weed math
wait, what were we talking about?
LOL!
First, they came for the Subarus.
and I did not speak out because I drive a V W.
We are looking forward to the launch of this enterprise. It joins, these libation-oriented businesses at East Decatur Station: BlueTarp, Three Taverns, and Wine Workshop and Brew Center.
I know it has been discussed before but remind me why we don’t have a liquor store inside the city limits?
We do — JJ Package on East College — but it’s a grandfathered use that we annexed from Dekalb. As far as I know, as a type of retail, package store’s aren’t currently an allowable use under our zoning. Not positive, though.
A liquor store is allowed under the code (look it up), but the restrictions are so tight (can’t have one within so many feet from school, residential, churches, MARTA, etc., it makes you scratch your head as to where you could possibly put one.
Well looky there. Thanks, Marty. So I guess liquor stores are simply prevented by regulatory onerousness. Different path, similar results.
Good catch. I can’t believe I missed the fact that we were getting a liquor store with that annexation. I will have to check it out now.
Welcome distillers! As you can tell, many of us start drinking before noon. I predict much success for you!
