Black Lab Mix Missing From Garden Lane
Decatur Metro | August 6, 2013Staci writes in…
It appears our beloved Stanley has decided to play Houdini and has disappeared from our backyard on Garden Lane. The thing is, Stanley could be ANYWHERE – the last time he escaped, he made it all the way to downtown Decatur.Stan is a lab mix – black with slightly longer than regular lab black hair. He has a white chest and white markings on his paws. He is SUPER sweet and loves to ride in the car – he will jump right in if you open the door for him. He is wearing a light blue collar with reflective striping that is embroidered with his name and our number. He is chipped but they have had problems locating the chip in the past.Contact us at and/or .
Hopefully Staci will provide some contact info in case someone sees her pup.
Added.
FYI – If you see a creepy guy casing your street slowly this afternoon in a gold Accord or Blue Altima, don’t call the cops, it’s just me looking for Stanley.
Good luck, I’m sure his family and his BFF squirrel buddy miss him terribly.
The picture was intentional. That’s what he was probably chasing when he jumped the fence or however he got out
Will be on the lookout for him over here—I know how stressful a missing pooch can be.
Well that was a long two hours of searching but we’ve got Stanley back. We are not sure exactly how he got out this time but we are pretty sure he was scouting Nick’s Creek Trail from Garden to Oakland or somewhere in that direction. He nearly gave us a heart attack but he will get payback when we give him the damn bath he now needs.
Thanks everyone for the concern both here and on facebook
J_T, so glad to hear you found him! Just saw the post and was ready to join the search party.
Found him before the posse was even rounded up. The squirrels in the neighborhood are safe for the night!
I’m so, so happy y’all found Stanley!! I also laughed at the comment about how ppl shouldn’t worry about you if you drive down their street over and over and over while looking for Stanley!
Woohoo! Glad to hear it. I had mine escape for the first time in the five years I’ve had him just the other day and those were the most terrifying 3 minutes of my life even tho he was in eye shot most of the time. I can’t imagine 2 hours.
So glad you found your pup.
Is this the same escape artist who ended up at the downtown Decatur CVS?
The one and only. We thought we had him reined in after that but apparently we will have to reassess. Again, this is why it’s probably a good thing we don’t have human kids.
OTOH, human kids have pockets for bus fare when they realize it’s suppertime.
That’s a very talented dog.
Glad you got him back.
Judging from the picture you may still be missing a black lab. That’s a flat-coat retriever if I ever saw one…awesome dogs!
(yet another reason to love these intertubes)
Not sure why Staci said lab rather than generic retriever but I can tell you with 100% certainty that he’s not a flat coated retriever. He’s got white on his chest and paws, so the AKC says he’s just a mutt. Stella looks even more like a flat coat, with the longer, thicker hair, but she’s also got the white chest and paws. Fortunately we don’t care much about pedigree and our happy adopting death row shelter dogs.
Hooray! So glad he’s home safe and sound.
Oh, Stanley!!! Glad he’s back! :0)
(I don’t believe I’d use a photo of him with his capture. In this squirrel hatin’ town, that skill makes Stanley much more valuable than any pedigree would! :0)
I was thinking the same thing. Our dog is completely useless vis-a-vis actually killing the varmints. He’ll bark at ‘em like the Apocalypse is nigh, but if one turned tail & came back at him, he’d probably faint dead away.
He’s also a good tracker. He can sniff out chipmunks, moles and rabbits and he’ll dig and dig until he gets them. The funny thing is, I don’t think he ever wants to “kill” anything. In fact, he usually looks very sad and disappointed when whatever he catches stops making cool squeaky noises.
Hmmm. . . possible parentage could be Irish setter. We’ve had two setter/lab mixes that were gorgeous white chested labs with delicate, elegant setter features and terrific personalities. Good luck on securing your babe. Labs are notorious wanderers. Ours used to go to the pound to get a ride home. We’d pay the fine plus the taxi fare (back in the 70s)
Stanley’s never made it to the pound on his own. But I lived on the other side of town when we first adopted him and we used to take him to the Oakhurst dog park, which was about a mile from the house. He got out of the yard one day and ran straight there. Within 10 minutes, he was at the front gate, whining for someone to let him in. I’ll admit, I was a little proud of that feat
