Cakes & Ale Wins Georgia Trust Preservation Award
Decatur Metro | April 29, 2013 | 10:30 amAs pointed out by the Atlanta Business Chronicle this morning, Cakes & Ale is among the 23 recipients of a the state-wide Georgia Trust Historic Preservation Award for the rehabilitation of their new spaces along Sycamore Street.
Skimming through the press release, it seems that C&A was the only recipient in the metro Atlanta area. (Correct me if I’m wrong about that.)
Thanks to the readers who pointed this out to me this morning!

Congrats Cakes and Ale- we all appreciate the extra effort taken to give the community such a beautiful and meaningful space.
re rest of Metro area, Vinings Preservation Society also got a stewardship award- my awesome archaeologist friend Garrett Silliman of Terminus Archaeological Research in Grant Park did a great project for them.
Congrats. It doesn’t seem long ago that the AJC was raving about both the food and the renovation. But whatI remember the most from the article was a comment from the owner, something like, “At first I didn’t understand why the city wanted us to spend $50,000 (or maybe $75,000) more to preserve the architectural integrity of the building, but in the end, I understood” (not an exact quote but the amount this businessman had to spend to satisfy a city or historical district bureaucrat was for me quite astounding). But national awards and connections with AJC food gurus and city officials won’t mean much unless you can comtinue to attract new and regular customers who are willing to pay the big bucks for great food. I wish C&A the best of luck.
Thanks FALIP. I agree completely. The only thing that would have made your comment better is to have included the phrase de jour, “Lo and Behold” as in, “Many of you have been wondering why C&A has not received more recognition lately from the food elites. Well, lo and behold…” . But still a pretty good comment.
Whayasay we get together soon and talk about the good ol’ days and these damn high taxes!
