Victory Sandwich Bar Now Open
Decatur Metro | February 13, 2013Many of you have been asking when this spot would open for months now. Well, it appears the wait is over.
Downtown Decatur posted the above photo of the new Church Street Victory Sandwich Bar on Twitter with the note “Victory is open…”.
More importantly, is the slushie machine up and running?
Yes! (I just asked for confirmation since we’re sitting here enjoying our Weed Eaters.)
I think it’s been open for a few days. Mrs. Lump and I had lunch there yesterday and were very pleased. The sandwiches, sides, drinks, (house-made?) chips and cookie were all excellent. Note that these are small (half-size) sandwiches (but priced accordingly) so you’re generally expected to get two or add a side to round out a meal.
We’ll definitely be regulars. And yes, the Jack Coke slushie machine was up and running!
I noticed this when I walked by yesterday and figured I’d just been out of the loop and it had been open for weeks. Great addition for Decatur!
The menu is terrible and plain. Too bad this isn’t “Fresh To Go,” or the new deli on Clifton near Emory and CDC. We have good sandwich shops in town but this??? Really
Have you eaten there or just basing your opinion on the menu?
Have you actually tried the food?
You are 100%, vadis. This place SUCKS. Let me assure you that there is no need to actually try the food. We can do without your negative vibes there anyway.
Now, how the hell did I miss this opening?!? At least I know where I’m having lunch tomorrow!
Oh yeah, and despite my snarkasm above, I have to agree about the terrible plainness of the menu. I mean, every damn place has beet pastrami, kimchi and Thai pepper mayo sandwiches nowadays. And the Jack and Coke slushies? Just awful. Personally, I’m holding out for Blimpie to return…
Thank you -
I am working in DT Decatur tomorrow, JT
Setting aside the ridiculous negativity right out of the gate, I will say that the sandwiches they had on offer on the in-house menu varied somewhat from the menu on their website for the other location. Three or four of the sandwiches were completely different.
For us, this fills a hole for a certain style of sandwich place that has been missing since we lost 5th Earl. But to each their own. I would urge you to try it before you bash it.
Haven’t seen the Decatur menu yet but good for them for mixing things up and offering some new sandwiches. Don’t worry about the lone haters. If this place matches the IP location in quality, it’ll do a great business.
My family greatly misses the 5th Earl. Is there any chance of a re-opening in our area?
I miss the 5th Earl. The weekend mussels nights were wonderful. I’m a fool for moules.
vadis,
maybe you’d like Jimmy John’s further down Ponce?
+1
Pure Knead posted on Facebook that Victory will be using their gluten-free bread. I may have to try this place out.
Menu sounds scrumptious and entertaining to me — both the food and the drink. Guess I don’t get out much.
I saw what you wrote after a pitcher of martinis and I can’t wait to see what a few Jack & Coke slushies or Dark & Stormys produce!
Think I’ll try this for lunch on Friday. Anyone want to join me?
Sure, why not? Time?
How about 12:30. To celebrate the new addition of this great little place I may just go all out and have a jack and coke slushie at lunchtime!
If you’re still there around 1 or 1:30 you will see me, Mrs. J_T and both of our parents in the middle of a wedding venue touring day. You may or may not want to say hello. If you’re still there and I look miserable, you are welcome to send a slushie my way
I hope to see you there! Dark & Stormy or Jack & Coke?
I’m pretty sure at that point it’s not going to matter!
Just looked at our schedule for today. Don’t go out of your way to wait for us because there ain’t no way we are keeping to it! On the other hand, if you do see us there, there is no doubt that we will all need a Jack and Coke. Hold the slushie and hold the Coke for me!
Cool. I’ve got a Falcons sweatshirt on. Likely to join on the slushie.
See you soon!
Pleasant lunch!
Enjoyed it as well!
Sorry we missed you guys in Decatur but apparently this whole wedding planning is serious business. We joined you guys in spirit, though. Turns out we had a bit of time for lunch between appointments in Inman Park so we took the folks to the Victory there. Everyone loved it. Slushies did not hurt
Sorry not to have run into you today, but perhaps another time. The slushie was great! Good luck with all of the wedding planning. : )
Wedding planning, schmedding planning. I’m looking into plane tickets to Vegas right now!
Another day, indeed. I’ll bet if we wait two weeks, we’ll even be able to comparison dine on the slushies. I can almost guarantee that, like the recent proliferation of fro-yo ridiculousness, Decatur is bound to see an explosion of icy alcoholic treats once people discover Victory.
And when we do meet up, you can explain once and for all whether you are “Mainer at Heart” or “Maine Rat Heart”…
The Spaceman is having a very difficult time reconciling the decision to paint over the KISS & Ramones mural. That alone will be the biggest obstacle for Victory to overcome. Gotta question the decision makers there.
I highly doubt that.
Had lunch during the Obama excitement. Took me a while to figure out the concept — I think it’s supposed to be a working man’s bar inside a garage. There’s also a game room that we didn’t check out.
Good for cheap no-nonsense grub with foodie touches. The Cuban sandwich was great,; the chorizo — a disappointment. Fab mixed green salad. Everything is on a burger bun.
If you’re sound sensitive — like me — lots of reverberant noise.
The 4 dollar price point is welcome, but is one sandwich big enough for a working man like me?
I guess it depends on how much of a “man” you are. Or how much you’ve been “working.” The sandwiches aren’t tiny but they’re not huge either. I figure that they’re about the size of a sandwich I’d make at home. I find that one sandwich (comes with chips) and a side (spicy sesame ramen, yum!) are more than enough for a filling lunch or a light to moderate dinner. That doesn’t mean I don’t often order a second sandwich anyway. But I am apparently to sandwiches what Smalltowngal is to sweets, so take that as you will.
The idea seems to be that at most places, you’ll pay $8 or so for a fancy sandwich and get a much bigger meal than you need. Here, you can get basically a half order for half the price. You can either keep the cost and the calories down or you can double up without breaking the bank.
And no, I am not a paid attorney spokesman for Victory Sandwich Bar, just a very satisfied patron of the Inman Park location who’s super stoked that they’ve come east.
Is there ping pong?
Yes, Eric – and table tennis too!
